Fox News has leveled accusations against Tucker Carlson, their former prime-time host, of contract violation through his initiation of a separate show on Twitter. This purported contractual breach may pave the way for possible legal conflicts between the two parties, further inflaming their current public feud, as first reported by Axios.

This allegation follows Carlson’s recent upload on Twitter named “Ep. 1,” marking the beginning of his exclusive Twitter series, “Tucker on Twitter.” This inaugural 10-minute-long episode is the first in a series of shows that Carlson plans to host independently of Fox News.

Carlson’s legal representatives maintain that any prospective litigation by Fox would contravene his rights under the First Amendment. Earlier, in April, Carlson had been dismissed from Fox News due to a settlement in a defamation case involving Dominion Voting Systems. He has subsequently leveled fraud charges against Fox and asserted that the network did not honor commitments made to him.

As reported by NBC News, Bryan Freedman, Carlson’s attorney, issued a statement in which he remarked:

“Fox defends its very existence on freedom of speech grounds,” Freedman said. “Now they want to take Tucker Carlson’s right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on current events.”

Following the release of the inaugural episode of Carlson’s Twitter show, Fox’s general counsel dispatched a letter indicating that Carlson had violated his contract. In response, Carlson’s legal team maintains that Twitter does not pose a direct competition to Fox News, and they oppose the network’s efforts to curtail his Twitter engagements.

Carlson, with the support of his legal team, has been pressuring Fox News for a contract release. A high-ranking Fox executive reportedly informed him of their intent to keep him on the sidelines until 2025 when his contract is due to expire. If Fox News has its way, this could imply that Carlson will be benched until after the 2024 election, potentially silencing one of the most influential conservative voices in media.
