WHEELER: Politicized Threats Versus Reality

The Democrat Party apparatchik media and the Biden Administration are emphasizing the threat of “right-wing extremists” and “white supremacists” which they say poses the greatest domestic terrorist threat our nation faces. How did they reach such a conclusion? Through manipulation of data and downplaying real threats, plus conflating white supremacist groups with right-wing groups. But even with manipulated statistics, their own data shows the real threat to the homeland is from left-wing groups.

“The threat from domestic terrorists has grown in recent years, and – per the Center for Strategic and International Studies – white supremacists were responsible for two-thirds of all terror plots and attacks in 2020,” stated a report from Politico this week. Notice how easily Politico, and the study it cites, conflates white supremacists with the so-called “right-wing” groups.  The report explained that the Department of Homeland Security was prioritizing tracking these “terror” groups because of the threat they pose. Politico says that the “Trump White House largely downplayed the threat from white supremacists as the president instead tweeted ceaselessly about Antifa.” The fallacy of that conclusion is that the Trump administration prevented some of the attacks used to inflate the statistical threat of right-wing groups. 

This is another political scam designed to scare and divide the nation. The actual statistics and the methodology were cooked by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) to support the desired political conclusion. As deplorable as white supremacists are, they do not pose nearly as great a threat as left-wing extremists, even according to the flawed statistics used in the study. 

In fact, a closer look shows that CSIS really had to strain to make it appear as though “white supremacists” are the threat they claim. For example, hundreds of stores that were looted during Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots were left off the list of terror attacks, thus making the left-wing appear less threatening. 

Included in the category of “white supremacy” terror was a Latino man named Armando Hernandez Jr. Hernandez shot two women and a man in Arizona last May, but because prosecutors said he was a member of some “involuntary celibate” online group, CSIS arbitrarily determined he was a “white supremacist.”  

CSIS did not include any of the 45 police officers who were shot in 2020 among the left-wing terrorist attacks. Also, the study includes not just attacks but “terror plots” as well. Included in the right-wing column was the foiled plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, even though some in that group were connected to Antifa. 

According to the CSIS study, there were “570 violent protests between May and August” last year, almost entirely Antifa and BLM, but only 61 were cited as terrorist attacks in the report.  

Perhaps the most telling statistic in the CSIS study is that even after the numbers were highly manipulated, it turns out that 84 percent of the left-wing terrorist attacks involved explosives, incendiaries, and firearms, versus only 49 percent of the suspected right-wing attacks and plots. The reality is that the vast majority of the threats to the nation’s homeland are from left-wing extremists. Left-wing violence was ubiquitous throughout 2020, despite media attempts to characterize it as “mostly peaceful.”

There is no excuse or defense for white supremacy. However, it is obvious that Democrats, the Biden Administration, and its media allies are driving civil unrest by creating strawmen arguments about racism and genocidal police departments. It seems like it is being done to assist the Democrats in consolidating political power.

Our best defense against this cynical political operation is unity as a nation. So, here is some advice for everyone who is not a minority: make sure that people of other ethnicities know and understand that we are all on the same side, that we are not going to let extremists of the left or right divide us, and that our common humanity is greater than any corrupt political party’s agenda.
