Biden’s DOJ Lets Vandal of Catholic Church Off Easy: No Jail Time for Hate Crime
The Biden administration’s Justice Department is facing backlash for its recommendation of zero jail time for Maeve Nota, a 31-year-old transgender individual who vandalized a Catholic church in Bellevue, Washington, with profane graffiti, destroyed a statue of the Virgin Mary, assaulted a church worker, and resisted arrest.
The DOJ’s recommendation is being called a “sweetheart plea deal” by critics, considering the severity of Nota’s actions, including vandalizing the church with messages like “F— Catholics” and “rot in your fake hell.”

Pro-Life Activists Treated Harshly, While Hate Crimes Go Unpunished
The Biden administration’s approach to pro-life activists outside abortion clinics has been drastically different. While Nota was given a slap on the wrist, the DOJ wanted to throw the book at Mark Houck, a pro-life activist who allegedly pushed a Planned Parenthood escort during an encounter outside an abortion clinic.
The DOJ alleged that Houck violated the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which criminalizes using force with the intent to injure, intimidate and interfere with clinic workers. The administration wanted Houck to face 11 years in prison, but a jury acquitted him.
Biden’s DOJ Prioritizes Politics Over Justice
The discrepancies in how the Biden administration’s Justice Department has treated Nota and Houck raise questions about whether politics is being prioritized over justice. It seems that the DOJ is politicizing and weaponizing the FACE Act to go after pro-life Christians while turning a blind eye to violent felons terrorizing Catholic churches like Nota.
Nota’s situation highlights the administration’s selective enforcement of hate crime statutes. Despite causing $10,000 in damages and assaulting a church worker, Nota was only charged with destruction of religious property, a misdemeanor that can carry up to one year in prison and $100,000 in fines. Yet, when it comes to pro-life activists, the administration is eager to throw the book at them.

I thought hate crime laws were enacted to ensure higher sentences for those who commit crimes motivated by hate. Perhaps not in the case of groups favored by liberals, like gays and transgenders, who are encouraged by those liberals who preach to them that they are victims and not responsible for their own actions.
