All too often, politicians leave us disappointed. Sen. Coburn was an exception. First in the House and later the Senate, the staunch fiscal and social conservative kept his promise to serve a limited number of terms. He most famously earned the ire of his colleagues for vigorously opposing any expenditure that needlessly ran up our national debt. Democrats referred to him as “Dr. No” for using every resource at his disposal to hold up bloated spending bills. Coburn died after a decade-long fight with prostate cancer on March 28.
