AOC calls for Sen Dianne Feinstein to retire
Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has called for Sen Dianne Feinstein to retire from her position, stating that she is causing great harm to the judiciary due to her old age and health issues. She added that criticisms of this stance as ‘anti-feminist’ are a farce. Feinstein, who has served in the Senate for over 30 years, was hospitalized for shingles last month and has faced other health issues, including concerning reports related to her mental fitness. AOC would comment on the situation, saying,
“[Diane Feinstein] should retire. I think criticisms of that stance as ‘anti-feminist’ are a farce,”
“Her refusal to either retire or show up is causing great harm to the judiciary – precisely where repro rights are getting stripped. That failure means now in this precious window Dems can only pass GOP- approved nominees.”
Growing calls from within her own party
Feinstein, 89, has faced a growing chorus of critics within her own party demanding she resigns from office due to her old age and health issues. Rep. Ro Khanna of California has also called for Feinstein to step aside, stating that she’s unable to fulfill her duties. Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib criticized Feinstein for her absences from the Senate floor, which is leading to the GOP passing bills through the upper chamber.
Feinstein’s spokesperson pointed to the senator’s statement from earlier this month when she said that she intends to return as soon as possible once her medical team advises that it’s safe for her to travel. In the meantime, she remains committed to the job and will continue to work from home in San Francisco.
