The business and restaurant review company Yelp announced they will begin placing red flag warnings on businesses with publicly-documented cases of racist behavior.
The announcement was greeted with cheers by the liberal community, who hope to use the tool to harass business owners.
But it comes the same week as Planned Parenthood released the result of an internal audit documenting decades of racist behavior at the abortion chain, prompting some to ask if Yelp will place a public warning against Planned Parenthood.

“As the nation reckons with issues of systemic racism, we’ve seen in the last few months that there is a clear need to warn consumers about businesses associated with egregious, racially-charged actions to help people make more informed spending decisions,” Yelp announced in a company blog post.
“Now, when a business gains public attention for reports of racist conduct, such as using racist language or symbols, Yelp will place a new Business Accused of Racist Behavior Alert on their Yelp page to inform users, along with a link to a news article where they can learn more about the incident,” Yelp announced.
When a business is publicly reported to have engaged in racist behavior, that company’s Yelp review will be covered up by a warning window with a red exclamation point.
The words “Business Accused Of Racist Behavior” appear in bold type and users must click through before they can learn anything else about the company.
It comes just days after an internal investigation by Planned Parenthood led the abortion chain to admit that not only had the company engaged in racist behavior but its very origins are racist.
“Dozens of employees for Planned Parenthood are saying they encountered continued instances of racism within the national wing of the organization,” the Washington Examiner reports. “The organization commissioned the Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance group to conduct an internal audit, which was based on interviews with 64 current and 12 former black employees.”
Despite operating over 600 clinics nationwide, Planned Parenthood has so few black employees all identifying information had to be removed when the audit was published. The group was founded by Margaret Sanger for the expressed purpose of making birth control widely available in order to limit reproduction by blacks and the poor.
“Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s leadership is committed to confronting the organization’s legacy of white supremacy head-on, and the cultural assessment conducted by [Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance] is an important component of the comprehensive and meaningful work we are undertaking to create belonging and equity,” Melanie Newman, Planned Parenthood’s head of communications and culture said in a statement.
Does this mean Yelp will red-flag Planned Parenthood?
