Biden Amazed By New Gizmo Called ‘Teleconference’ After Botching Video Town Hall

With the coronavirus putting a halt to campaign events and rallies, Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden told reporters he plans to keep in touch with donors and supporters through this new thing called a “teleconference.”

“They tell me there’s ways we can do teleconferencing via us all being in different locations,” Biden told The Washington Post’s Matt Viser and other reporters of this brand new thing that lets you see people in different cities on a video screen.

The Biden campaign plans to use the Zoom video conference app to hold virtual fundraisers with donors and for other campaign events.

But a March 13 attempted “virtual town hall” with Biden proved to be a disaster. Illinois’ Democrat Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth couldn’t stay on the screen while using their phone cameras. 

Biden’s audio was badly garbled through much of the event. Staff fixed it by having him speak into his telephone instead of the off-screen microphone, but at one point Biden nearly wandered off-screen as he spoke into his phone.

The “virtual town hall” was a 38-minute event, but it was so technically botched the Biden campaign had to pull it from their YouTube channel. They eventually posted a version that edited out all the mistakes and glitches, cutting the event to just 18 minutes.
