As Hurricane Ian rages past Cuba in the direction of Florida, leftist newspaper Politico is taking heat over its recent comments about Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). The organization tweeted that DeSantis “still hasn’t faced one of the toughest challenges a Florida leader can encounter: a hurricane,” but that is fake news.

Fox News reports:

DeSantis took office in Jan. 2019 and Hurricane Sally struck the Florida panhandle in Sept. 2020, hitting the city of Pensacola particularly hard.

Politico tweeted a link to an article titled “DeSantis faces the true test of any Florida governor,” with the accompanying text, “Gov. Ron DeSantis spent his first term becoming one of the most influential Republicans in the country. But he still hasn’t faced one of the toughest challenges a Florida leader can encounter: a hurricane.”

  1. Unlike newspapers and magazines, broadcasters have affirmative statutory and regulatory obligations to serve the public in specific ways. Despite the philosophical complications and political tensions that this arrangement entails, the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld the public trustee basis of broadcast regulation as constitutional. Try using the licensed TV stations since they must broadcast “In The Public Interest” (i.e., no lies).

What is the public interest standard of the FCC? In exchange for obtaining a valuable license to operate a broadcast station using the public airwaves, each radio and television licensee is required by law to operate its station in the “public interest, convenience and necessity.” Generally, this means it must air programming that is responsive to the needs of the community. If you think lying to the public is in the public interest; that would make you the Village Idiot.

  3. The left wing controlled media has always attacked and defamed any republican of any office capacity; they know no better.

  4. democrats are tying to pin all kinds of things on DeSantis and they are failing to show any of that he is guilty of any falsehoods conjured up by leftists. Also they are trying to say Latinos will not vote for him, that is a joke because he has helped them and all the citizens of the great State of Florida. I do not live in Florida but I would like to move there if I could find a place to live

  5. Not that others have not sensationalized and deceived in so claimed news articles, but Progressives are downright, blatantly hostile about it. While glossing over horrific things done by Left leaning politicians, judges, businesses etc., some of the main stream media has become outright dishonest by creating lies or perpetuating lies created by others that are intended to do harm to those who oppose Progressive agendas for Socializing the nation. By direct extension, the harm done to those opposing Socialism is done even more to all citizens who are not included in the elitist faction of fascists.

  6. The liberal media was embolden during Trump by getting away with lie after lie. Now they don’t even care, it’s a resume enhancement to be able smear someone with lies, spin, and half truths and not even bat an eye when called on it, just snicker.
