The New York State legislature has now passed a new ‘Gender Recognition Act,’ which will allow individuals who claim to be ‘transgender’ or ‘intersex’ to be able to change their birth certificates and driver’s licenses to reflect this belief.
As The Hill reports:
New York lawmakers have passed legislation aimed at making it easier for transgender, nonbinary and intersex residents to update and obtain government-issued documents that reflect their gender identity.
Both chambers of the state legislature passed the Gender Recognition Act this week and the bill now heads to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s desk for final approval.
The measure would give residents in the state the option to designate their sex as “X” on driver’s licenses and birth certificates, which can indicate nonbinary, intersex, undesignated or other.
Under the bill, New Yorkers will be allowed to attest to their own gender identity when petitioning a court or updating an identification document and will no longer have to provide medical evidence. It also waives a rule requiring people to publish a notification in a newspaper when they change their name in the state.
The new bill reflects the extreme left-ward drift states like New York have taken under the Biden administration.
