The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has admitted to undercounting coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in nursing homes following the state’s decision requiring nursing homes to readmit residents who had tested positive for the novel, highly contagious pathogen.
It was an inexplicable decision that wasn’t rescinded by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) until Mother’s Day. The belated decision has become one of several experts have linked to New York’s high death toll. (RELATED: Obama CDC Chief Claims Cuomo Could’ve Prevented 50-80% of NY Deaths)
Despite receiving glowing media coverage, we have learned that Cuomo wasted critical early days that could have gone towards implementing appropriate measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. Instead, his profound denial and constant bickering with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio led to immeasurable suffering on the part of their constituents.
While Cuomo is finally coming under scrutiny as reported cases have dropped substantially in New York, he remains defiant: proclaiming yesterday that no state official should be prosecuted for responding to the herculean task that confronted them. That includes those behind the infuriating decision to reintroduce COVID-19 patients into nursing homes filled with the most vulnerable New Yorkers. By the time the virus hit New York, localized outbreaks had already ravaged nursing homes elsewhere, like Kirkland, Washington’s Life Care Center. The proximity of residents, their age and underlying health conditions would create ideal conditions for an outbreak with a high mortality rate.
Perhaps that’s why even in Democratic-dominated New York, Cuomo and his lieutenants can’t stop the trickle of damning news — despite their best efforts.
The Daily Caller’s Andrew Kerr has more:
New York’s coronavirus tracker “currently does not include out of facility deaths,” NYSDOH spokeswoman Jill Montag told the DCNF. “Deaths of nursing home and adult care facility residents that occurred at hospitals is accounted for in the overall fatality data on our COVID-19 tracker.”
The NYSDOH decided on May 3 to count nursing home residents who succumbed to COVID-19 off of the premises as non-nursing home deaths; in other words, if they had been whisked away to a hospital only to die there.
Montag told the DCNF that the state is opting to not disclose out of facility deaths “in order to maintain consistency and reliability in the data as presented, and to avoid any potential for double-counting.”
Even so, the number of deaths reported in New York nursing homes surpassed 5,400 last week, dwarfing other states, including the more populous states of California, Texas and Florida. (RELATED: Cuomo’s Nursing Home Disaster Looks Worse When Compared to Fellow Governors)
Of the nine states with the largest coronavirus outbreaks at long-term care facilities, according to a New York Times tracker, New York is the only state that omits the deaths of residents who died at hospitals from its reporting.
Of course, this mismanagement represents only one aspect of Cuomo’s initially slow, equivocating response to a novel virus that did devastating damage to parts of his densely populated state. As a report by Pro Publica outlining the early days of the crisis explains:
Cuomo’s conviction didn’t last. On March 22, he, too, shuttered his state. The action came six days after San Francisco had shut down, five days after de Blasio suggested doing similarly and three days after all of California had been closed by Newsom. By then, New York faced a raging epidemic, with the number of confirmed cases at 15,000 doubling every three or four days.
According to the latest tallies, 28,168 people have perished in New York.

Here is truth. Cuomo made sure that the deaths in nursinlg homes were not counted as it was his actions that caused them
Then he made sure that ALL other deaths in the populous were counted as corona, including flu, heart disease, and old age. The need was to have a high death rate so they could keep the LOCK DOWN going as long as possible.
Sweden, Singapore and Taiwan did not lock down and I understand they did just about as well as the countries who did. With the possible exception of Italy, who brought in thousands of Chinese visitors about the time the virus was ramping up.

Would a normal “prudent man” do what Cuomo or his subordinates did, by placing an active Covid 19 case into a group of Americans that are the most severly effected and can’t run away from it? Not everyone that lives in New York lives in NYC. I live in the Finger Lakes region, one of the most beautiful regions in our Country. Unfortunately we have Cuomo for a governor. Cuomo is as crooked as they get. Because of the virus he stopped this years raise (by Union contract) for state employees. Yet he gave himself a $30,000 raise. Cuomo is dirty. He got away with the Buffalo Billions scam, where everyone else didn’t. That is where he spent the state’s money instead of replenishing the medical supplies that ran low because of the H1N1 outbreak. Then this scumbag has the nerve to blame Trump because NYS doesn’t have any medical supplies to fight the current virus. Unbelievable. He learned from his father Mario how to win by deceit. One example involved myself and 200 other candidates who were running for office as “insurgents”. These were average working people who were not part of the Democrat Party machinery, who if elected would unseat the holier than thou anointed incumbents. I was placed on the ballot by the Board of Elections after petitioning for weeks to get on the ballot. It was a Congressional seat that required 1400 valid signitures from Democrat registered voters. Me and a small group of friends and people I worked with, collected 2800 signatures that won me ballot status. Over 800 Republicans signed my petitions but I still qualified. The year was 1986. Governor Mario Cuomo and his party apparatchiks must have freaked out because Cuomo publicly announced that NO insurgent would be allowed on the ballot!! The local press covered it and I read it in the New York Daily News. I wondered how they were going to stop me since I had already been placed on the ballot? I soon learned the answer. It started with a suspicious phone call offering me a new credit card if would just give him some personal information. I knew right away it was a trick to learn about me since my background was virtually unknown to them. Soon I received notice that the Queens County Democrat Party were challenging my signatures. That move forced me to hire an attorney to represent me in Federal Court. On the first day of court proceedings two Dem Party attorneys announced they had 18 witnesses who were subpoenaed to testify. My attorney turned and gave me a look that told me I was all alone. He thought I had used the phone book to find names for my petitions. During lunch recess my attorney told me that I could be charged with purjury if I falsified the names on my petitions. I told him they were legit and not to worry about it. And to think that I was paying this guy out of my own pocket!! What I didn’t know at the time was that the Democrat Party apparachicks were coordinating opposition to the insurgents with the governors office and to the extent they could through the federal court system. Lady Justice in this case stood for “Just Us” in New York’s Democrat Party. To make my story short, I will just say the following: All 18 witnesses testified under oath that they signed my petitions! I was home free, right? My attorney became Perry Mason after the third or fourth person pointed me out in the courtroom, confirming that I witnessed them signing. Home free, right? What could go wrong? The court proceeding lasted three days. Shortly after I was notified by the Board of Elections that I was removed from the ballot!! The judge in the case ruled that “I find it preposterous that the candidate collected his signatures under the rules of the NY State Board of Elections”. Simultaneously my supervisor at work asked to see me. Someone had written an anoymous letter to our company HR accusing me of being wanted by the police. The NY Daily News ran an article in the daily Queens section of the paper with my photo and a headline that read, “CANDIDATE SOUGHT BY COPS”!! I had been personally threatened by one of the Party’s attorneys during the three day trial. He warned me, “better look under your car next time you used it”. Maybe all these illegal underhanded actions were done out of fear. Fear tha I might win the Congressional seat formerly held by Geraldine Ferraro, the former running mate of Presidential candidate Walter Mondale. Heck, it was just the primary too. No telling what would have happened to me if I had won in the general election? But I can guess.
Where is our Justice system? So much corruption and this people are still in their positions instead of in jail. Cuomo is responsible for the death of a lot of seniors due to his stupid policies. Send him to jail.

On the upside, the governor stated think of how much money we’ll save by no longer having to pay for their Social Security and Medicare benefits. He further commented that if we could extrapolate those numbers throughout the nation, we could fund that part of Nancy Pelosi’s bill dedicated to paying illegals a living virus wage.
That pretty well takes him out of running for any national office especially if Biden falls on his butt. It will cut the criticism of Trumps handling the virus issue. It has been an interesting couple of weeks. Me too is a dead issue and the handling of the pandemic has been neutralized.

Gee, we were asked to only go out for necessary trips. The county of 33,000 here in Alabama has zero deaths. Yes most businesses closed until first of May. Now we just got our 100th case confirmed. NO patients were sent to nursing homes. Now we have restaurants and churches open with reasonable rules, temperature checked, spacing, etc. I give sunshine, humidity, and temps over 80 some of the credit. Living in a high rise, taking subways and trains, buses, there is no way to get fresh air and sunshine. Sweet Home Alabama! I’d never live in NYC.
Early on Cuomo said Sending Coronovirus patients to a Nursing Homes is a death sentence. Then…he did it anyway ! His ANSWER was right in front of him…when President Trump sent the COMFORT SHIP to Cuomo…he should of put the patients with the virus on that ship, so Hospitals could treat non- coronovirus patients.
