The number of Americans infected with coronavirus in one state of our union could now be upwards of six figures.

The estimate comes from a top health official in the State of Ohio, underscoring the limited amount of COVID-19 testing thus far.

Per The Hill:

Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton said at a press conference alongside Gov. Mike DeWine (R) that given that the virus is spreading in the community in Ohio, she estimates at least 1 percent of the population in the state has the virus.

“We know now, just the fact of community spread, says that at least 1 percent, at the very least, 1 percent of our population is carrying this virus in Ohio today,” Acton said. “We have 11.7 million people. So the math is over 100,000. So that just gives you a sense of how this virus spreads and is spreading quickly.”

She added that the slow rollout of testing means the state does not have good verified numbers to know for sure.

“Our delay in being able to test has delayed our understanding of the spread of this,” Acton said.

The median incubation period for COVID-19 is five days.

To slow the transmission, schools, colleges, theaters, and offices are closing.

Surely someone is figuring out why Ohio has more reported cases than New York and California – are those cases tested for Wuhan Virus or are they flu or is someone just fooling with lies ?

People under age 60 will get rid of it an a few days, over 65 a little longer. the ones 80 & over are the most to become very ill & possibly worse. If anyone reading this is over 80, stay home, NO crowded places, NO eating out, NO TOUCHING, etc. This will be for a short period, the main thing is DO NOT PANIC!!!!

As yet there is no way to check for this virus.

Reread the health official’s comments. Because testing is what it is and because the incubation period of the virus is five days, the health official gave an ESTIMATE of the number of people who COULD have the virus. The percentage she offered was 1% of the total population of the State of Ohio….apparently 1% of that is 100,000. I don’t know if it was wise to make that assumption because people do panic…exactly something we don’t want and don’t need. What do I wish…I WISH THE VIRUS WOULD GO AWAY! It’s putting our country in a mess.

I don’t think it’s the virus itself that’s messing us up, Nancy, but the hype the liberal media and others are generating because they’re always looking for negative things to focus on. That combined with “guesses” like this governor is making with no real facts to back it up — a guestimate. I wish those perpetuating the panic would go away and be quiet — it’s all we hear about — first the Mueller report, then Kavanaugh hearings, then impeachment, now coronavirus. They just move from a single topic to the another, easily perpetuating panic and concern. Never mind reporting on all the other important things going on. Been going on for a few years now, and it’s getting mighty old to me. We have certainly seen contagious diseases of various kinds over and over and over again through the decades, touching and killing a lot more people within the same time-frame, than this one has. No panic — people used common sense and rational thinking, took it in stride, did what they could to not get sick or spread it — NO PANIC. And life went on.

I don’t believe it. The demorats are willing to wreck our economy if they think it would lead to a defeat of Trump in Nov. Corona is no worse than the flu and healthy people will get over it just like they get over the flu. The elderly, especially those with respiratory problems, are the ones who need to be careful not to be exposed to it. This scare is media driven!

Yeah, at 1%, 3.2 million people in the US would get the virus.

Hopefully, all of the illegal immigrants will catch it and die.

What a horrible thing to say – regardless of which political party you support. That type of thinking adds fuel to the fire of divisiveness out there and When we should be dealing with this crises as a UNITED people. Shame on you for saying what you said.

The key word is estimate. The educated guess from people that never faced this virus before. So just what data are they using? Oh, I know it’s the data the left uses in all its scare tactics. The reason? To make Trump look bad. with so many idiots in America its working. —–Grampa

AMEN, AMEN, AMEN, Grampa! A guestimate that has no purpose but to continue the hype and push people’s panic buttons. They’re all a bunch of vacuous, demented, hate-filled liberals who will stoop as low as they can go to do just that — make this great President look bad. Must be very dark and cold where they live!!
