Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) has tapped California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to replace Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as the Golden State’s junior U.S. senator.
Padilla, the son of Mexican immigrants, will become California’s first Latino senator.
The Los Angeles Times reports:
At age 26, Padilla won a seat on the Los Angeles City Council during the anti-immigrant tumult of the 1990s after California voters approved measures requiring “English-only” public schools and banning immigrants who were in the U.S. illegally from government assistance and services. Padilla, who earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, went on to become the city’s youngest council president, a state senator and California’s current, two-term secretary of state.
The election of Democratic President-elect Joe Biden and Harris in November handed Newsom one of his most consequential and politically perilous opportunities in his first two years as California governor — deciding who to appoint to fill Harris’ seat in the Senate, among the most coveted political offices in the nation.
Newsom has faced months of relentless lobbying and pressure from powerful constituencies within the Democratic Party, even from some of his closest advisors.
Newsom said the responsibility was something he wouldn’t “wish even on my worst enemy” because his decision, no matter whom he appointed, was destined to raise the ire of those whose wishes were denied. But choosing Padilla also provides Newsom an opportunity to salve some of those relationships — the governor must now fill Padilla’s vacancy as secretary of state.
Padilla will face re-election in 2022.

How is that California’s first Latino Senator, the state is filled with Latinos and never once did they elect one to the Senate??? It is because the whole state has been controlled by the Getty, Brown, Pelosi, Newsom clans and their relatives for like 40 years and they are all related in some way, Pelosi is Gavin Newsom’s Aunt for God sakes. They are the ones that control it and they are the one’s that have to appoint a Latino since they would never be allowed to win an election. The woke heat must be coming onto them so they will make a little gesture to keep them off their backs.
What’s obvious to California residents is how the state is run by a cabal of NorCal oligarchs who rarely allow outsider Dems to ever get in state office. So throwing a bone to a SoCal Latino is how they cover for their control. This guy is probably a Sacramento resident now and has forgotten that he came from Pacoima.
She hasn’t even resigned her seat yet because she knows they will never be installed!

You can bet Padilla wasn’t Newsom ‘s pick by the way he put it. Pelosi ordered Newsom to select Padilla because he is latino and will always vote fore them.
Well isn’t this just a typical socialist, communist move giving a Senate seat to a far far leftist who had his nose so far up Newsom’s butt. Payback for all that devotion is to assign him to replace a person who was not really voted in as a VP but an Obama glove hand picked socialist the farthest left person in the Senate. The Democrats over the last four years have shown their evil side and it would have been inconceivable that people would have voted them in for the 2020 election. They cheated so they won and can’t wait for the 1984 realities of big brother clamping down on our freedoms and their taxing us out of our houses to provide them the ammunition to do so.
Padilla is the MF’er that disallowed the California split to be placed on the ballot so that We The People could say what’s up… we had nearly double the required signatures and yet he said it “was not in the best interest of the state” and put a stop to it! Padilla is the epitome of a lefty partisan hack, no surprise here!
