While San Francisco’s “woke” city government is busy renaming schools and banning plastic bags, the area’s elderly Asian residents are being attacked at epidemic rates.
“(I(n recent weeks, the string of violence and anti-Asian sentiment has reached another breaking point — one that has disproportionately targeted vulnerable Asian seniors in the Bay Area.,” the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
“A fatal attack on an 84-year-old Thai man in San Francisco. A violent attack of an 91-year-old man in Oakland’s Chinatown. An attack and robbery of a 64-year-old Vietnamese woman in San Jose. Another one, targeting a man at a San Leandro bank. Graffiti outside of a Chinese school in San Francisco. That’s just in the span of two weeks,” the paper reports.
In one attack, video cameras captured 19-year-old Antoine Watson running across a street to attack 84-year-old Vicha Ratanapakdee. Ratanapakdee, who immigrated to the United States from Thailand to live with his daughter, died after the assault.
The video shows Ratanapakdee walking down a sidewak when a man suddenly runs from across the street and slams him to the ground. The attacker makes no attempt to rob him and is intent on physical assault. Police report other video shows the suspect flees the scene with a female accomplice.
His daughter, Kim Ratanapakdee, tells KTVU she’s been targeted by racist slurs that have worsened over the last year.
“For [the suspect] to come from all the way across the street,” son-in-law Eric Lawson said in an interview with KTVU, “what else could have motivated him?”
Watson was arrested and charged with suspicion of murder and elder abuse. 20-year-old Malaysia Goo was also arrested and charged as an accessory.
In another videotaped attack, a 91-year-old Asian man is attacked on a sidewalk in San Francisco’s Chinatown and thrown to the ground.
The suspect then attacked two others.
“The suspect then approached a 60-year-old man and 55-year-old woman from behind that were also walking in the 800 block of Harrison Street,” police said. “The suspect pushed both victims to the ground, resulting in the woman losing consciousness. The man also suffered injury. Both victims were treated at a local hospital for their injuries.”
Residents says it is not an isolated incident.
“Carl Chan, president of the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, says the neighborhood is under attack. As of Sunday night, he has collected more than 20 incident reports and videos of small businesses getting robbed and owners and customers assaulted,” San Francisco’s ABC 7 reports.
The explosion of racist attacks could be tied to efforts by local liberals to “defund the police.”
“I want to start by apologizing to the victims of these heinous crimes,” said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. ABC 7 reports she went on to “attack efforts by some on the Oakland City Council to cut the city’s police budget by as much as 50 percent.”
“I have not forgotten, that this last summer, they brought a proposal to cut $25 million from the Oakland police department as a political statement, not because of operational or financial need,” said Schaaf.
In addition to these attacks, a 64-year-old Vietnamese woman was targeted and robbed in broad daylight and San Francisco’s Chinese American International School was graffitied with racist slurs.

What a shame. I was in Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam war. I spent the better part of three years in their country. I am ashamed of what our country has become. I would not be surprised if all of the victims were not citizens of what was the best country in the free world. However, we seem to be going down hill very fast. I notice all the people that were attacked were older people and they were attacked from behind. Only cowards do this and cover their faces.
