Gertrude Himmelfarb

Himmelfarb, Irving Kristol’s wife, was an intellectual giant in her own right. Throughout her career, she fought the left’s near-monopoly on academia with thought-provoking historical analyses that challenged liberal groupthink. President Bush presented her with a National Humanities Medal in 2004. Himmelfarb was 97.
