Five years ago, Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL), was considered a telegenic rising star in the Republican Party.
Then he was indicted by federal prosecutors for misusing government and campaign funds, including for redecorating his office with a “Downton Abbey” theme.
Schock resigned from Congress in disgrace. Eventually, federal prosecutors dropped all charges against him. But familial turmoil surrounding his coming out may have derailed any attempt at returning to politics.
Per the New York Post:
Scandal-scarred former Rep. Aaron Schock has come out as gay — admitting it has left him disowned by his deeply religious family who wants him to go through conversion therapy.
“I am gay,” wrote the 38-year-old ex-pol who resigned from Congress five years ago amid claims he misused government and campaign funds, with federal charges only dropped last year.
“For those who know me and for many who only know of me, this will come as no surprise,” admitted Schock, who noted there was plenty of “speculation” while he was in office.
“In many ways I regret the time wasted in not having done so sooner,” he said. “Life is better with nothing to fear or hide.”
Shock’s heartfelt missive described how being raised in the Apostolic Christian Church left him trying to deny his sexuality to keep from being disowned by his family.
A fear that has now tragically come to fruition.

Every choice in Life that we make has consequences, he did as he chose. No one is foolish enough to be unaware of the consequences, however much he or she may wish otherwise, we all end up paying them….
It’s not a choice anymore than being straight. This is not a personal opinion but one based on scientific information. Aversion therapy does not work and in fact has caused some serious consequences including suicide.

Although we must love the sinner, we are commanded to hate the sin and homosexuality IS a sin.
So is sex outside of marriage and abortion on demand but that hasn’t stopped people from participation. Anyway it seems to me that homosexuality is an issue of genetics and the often proposed scenario will eventually be proven to be the case.

The adverse consequences of coming out as gay have kept people on the “straight” and narrow. Negative consequences would prevent many people from choosing to be gay. People would choose not to be gay and they would live a straight life.

These comments are so sad. I do not approve of the gay life, but I also would never disown my child for it. Those that do and admit they would are horrible parents. I imagine God would have something to say about disowning a child, no matter the sin.
Actually, God is LESS Forgiving, though sad of the choice that the son had the right to make, but that defined him as a follower of satan, when he made it. He could redeem himself yet, do you think he WILL? That ALSO is his choice, of course.
I would shun the child that wants to be deviant no matter what the deviant action is. I do that to protect the rest of my children and family. Yes, they have a free choice to chose a way of life that they want to lead, and I have the freedom of chose as to weather I want to be associated with that way of life. Their are always some type of results for ones actions and chose’s. The point is are you or them ready for the results received.

If one believes GOD has created each one of us, then in his wisdom he created some homosexual. It differently is not a choice. No one would choose to be discriminated and disowned by their family.
Something must be special in being gay at least where I live. We have two active Catholic Churches and one Baptist in the small town I live in, a town with a gay majority of its population. There are no Methodist or any other denomination. All are welcome, all are accepted.
What the churches are saying, in so many words: “Hate the sin, not the sinners”. This also what I believe and practice.
God created Adam and Eve, the rest of us were created by our parents! God gave us life but he didn’t make us “straight” “normal” “abnormal” “gay” or anything else. That’s life that made each and every one of us the way we are! “God gave us life to make our choices, which we have to stand by……. God does say to NOT HATE but love thy neighbor… I take it to mean love the person NOT what the person does!
Protect them from what? Someone who is a child of GOD and GOD chose him or her to be gay. That gay family member is not going to change anyone else in the family as to if they are gay or straight. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states; 2358, They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trail. They must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Ever sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians , to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
He knew the consequences by “outing” his homosexuality. If I had a child that chose that lifestyle and chose to force it on my family and chose to publicly “out” himself…well, I would not take it lightly either.
It is disgusting that government prosecutors can hound an innocent man for five years, then say “never mind,” and walk away. Some prosecutor should be prosecuted for harassment.
They never said he wasn’t guilty, it says they dropped the charges.
Actually, he was not found to be innocent. Charges were dropped in exchange for him repaying the money he fraudulently mismanaged, stole or however you would like to define. Big difference between innocent or victimized as you would define it and given an appropriate punishment for his crimes.
No one has said that this pervert was not guilty, only that the government is not willing to prosecute him at this time.
Five years ago we had the Obama Justice Department. They have become famous for attacking innocent individuals because they are of the opposite party.
I don’t understand their surprise. I’m from an area that has a large gay population so maybe I am more attuned than others – but one look at him and – yeah he’s gay. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that”.
Mine is a perfect God, one who does not make mistakes and whose greatest commandment is to Love. Science has proven that “gayness” is overwhelmingly a matter of DNA composition, over which an individual has no control. To “hate” gays is to hate God. I feel sad for those hypocrites who profess to be Christian but spew such a Hate-filled message.
Sorry, but no “gay” gene has ever been found, it is a simple choice that anyone is free to make, but there is consequence for every choice, whether Good or wrong.

The “Holier than Thou” radical religious fools that seem to inhabit this particular blog need to wake up. Being gay is NOT a choice! You either are or you are not. No one would make up his/her mind to be gay so that they could endure the ridicule, scorn, and downright hatred that they get from a bunch of self-righteous nit-wits. I am not gay, but I had a friend in high school that was and he was one of the most decent folks that I ever knew. Decent folks don’t hate someone for being gay just as they don’t hate someone for their skin color.

I read most of the comments made on this site. Interesting. Kathy seems to be on the right track. She asks: “If a person is born gay then is a person that is attracted to having sex with children also born that way?” Carrying that thought a bit further; Is a person who is an adulterer born that way or is a person whose inclination at wanting to rape born that way? The answer lies in whether or not we give in to our desires. Let’s get back to the person who discovers that he is gay. As long as he keeps that desire to himself, he won’t incur the wrath of his family, friends and his loved ones. The same could be said of the person who keeps in check his desires to seek sex outside his marriage, or the person who desires sex with adolescent kids. We all are tempted 16/7 to do things we’re not supposed to do. The sin lies in whether we succumb to temptation.
