As Trump noted, he was serving as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), where he was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on August 6, 2020.

The NCTC is part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), the group brings together specialists from the CIA, the FBI, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security to manage terror threats.

Between March 2018 through December 2019, Miller also served as the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism and Transnational Threats at the National Security Council (NSC). There he handled strategic level policy making and implementation, and support to senior NSC and White House leadership.

More recently though, prior to leading the NCTC, Miller was ‘Performing the Duties of’ the Assistant Secretary of Defense (ASD) for Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC). This slightly different than an “Acting” position as ‘performing the duties of’ usually is a delegated position that applies to a confirmed subordinate and has an unlimited duration.

As NPR notes, “you can hold the “acting” title in a job that requires Senate approval for only so long, usually about seven months. With delegation, there’s no time limit. A subordinate can effectively take on the boss’s responsibilities indefinitely.”

His earlier confirmed Pentagon position was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Special Operations and Combating Terrorism (SOCT). Miller was sworn in as the DASD for SOCT in January 2020.

There, according to his Pentagon biography, Miller oversaw the:

…employment of special operations forces in counterterrorism, Military Information Support Operations (MISO), Information Operations, unconventional warfare, irregular warfare, direct action, special reconnaissance, foreign internal defense, counter proliferation, sensitive special operations, and personnel recovery/hostage issues as specified by the Secretary of Defense.

He’s also had experience as a combat veteran.

  1. Chris Miller is a top notch professional and well suited for the position. We served together in the 5th SFG(A) at fort Campbell. He is the caliber of individual we need to lead as Secretary of Defense. Congratulations to both president Trump and Chris Miller.

  2. It must have been hard for President Trump coming in cold turkey to a hostile Washington. Especially after Obama and Clinton and Soros had sullied the whole system. But he has a lot of experience in all aspects of property development, international trade, Business entrepreneurship, and much more, but now dealing with the swamp creatures and their skullduggery
