Struggling liberal network CNN drew praise from the mainstream media for banning campaign ads for President Donald on the grounds they are “misleading,” but is airing a campaign ad for Democrat Michael Bloomberg that falsely accuse Trump of setting fire to the Earth.
In October CNN refused to air ads from Trump’s campaign that accused former Vice President Joe Biden of withholding $1 billion in foreign aid from Ukraine’s government unless they fired a prosecutor investigating his son’s company.
CNN refused to air it, claiming official policy prohibits the network from airing ads with false or misleading claims.
But one of the ads currently running on behalf of Bloomberg is based entirely on a false claim.
Titled “Fire And Smoke,” the ad accuses Trump of literally “choking” the atmosphere with “fire and smoke” and claims Trump is personally causing global temperatures to rise.
“It’s getting hotter. But while fire and smoke choke our air, Donald Trump is making it worse,” the ad begins, featuring footage of California wildfires.
All three claims are completely false.
For one, global temperatures have been falling in recent years, following a decline in solar activity. “Temperature anomalies hit record peaks in 2016 but have been sliding since then,” none other than The Washington Post’s “Capital Weather Gang” reported in 2018.
Second, the number of wildfires in the United States is also declining. “The 2019 wildfire season has not been as active as 2018,” the Insurance Information Institute reports. “From January 1 to November 22, 2019, there were 46,706 wildfires compared with 52,080 wildfires in the same period in 2018, according to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). About 4.6 million acres were burned in the 2019 period, compared with 8.5 million acres in 2018.”
Third, there is absolutely no scientific proof whatsoever Trump is personally causing global temperatures or weather to change.
CNN has not announced they will ban the fake ad.
