The monarchy released the official cause of death of Queen Elizabeth II. The release came on Thursday and was shared throughout news outlets in the U.K. as well as the rest of the world. While the world mourns the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we look forward to a new era being ushered in with the expected coronation of King Charles III. The official coronation is suspected to take place in early 2023.

The monarchy said that Queen Elizabeth II, 96, officially died of old age.

The certificate, published by National Records of Scotland, records that Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle in Ballater, Scotland on Sept. 8 at 3.10 p.m. The document was signed by the queen’s daughter, Princess Anne.

The queen’s tomb is located inside the King George VI Memorial Chapel, part of St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

St. George’s Chapel reopened to the public Thursday, and hundreds of people lined up outside Windsor to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth 10 days after she was laid to rest in the tomb.

The tomb is marked by a slab of hand-carved Belgian black marble. The queen’s name is inscribed on the ledger stone in brass letter inlays, alongside the names of her husband, mother and father.

Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral happened on Sept. 19. King Charles III, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Princess Anne, Prince William and Prince Harry, among other royal family members, all attended the multitude of remembrance events throughout the royal mourning period.
