The Postal Service has now announced that it will begin slowing down delivery of mail, beginning today, as part of a plan to cut costs.
As CBS News reports:
Mail delivery for many Americans will slow starting on Friday, part of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s blueprint for overhauling the U.S. Postal Service in order to slash costs. But critics say the slower delivery standards could cause problems such as late bill delivery while more broadly undermining the public’s faith in the USPS.
Almost 4 of 10 pieces of first-class mail will see slower delivery, according to Paul Steidler, senior fellow at the Lexington Institute and an expert on the postal service. That “means mail delivery will be slower than in the 1970s,” he said, calling DeJoy’s plan “disastrous.”
Starting tomorrow, the postal service’s current three-day delivery standard for first-class mail — letters, bills, tax documents and the like — will drop to delivery anywhere within the U.S. within five days. In other words, Americans should now expect that letters and other mail could take up to five days to reach their destinations, and vice versa.
The USPS will continue to have a two-day delivery standard for single-piece first-class mail traveling within a local area, a USPS spokeswoman said, adding that the postal service has improved its delivery standards in 2021.

I think it is time to stop DAILY delivery of the USPS. Twice a week is adequate (Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday would get the job don and reduce wear and tear on vehicles and reduce personnel costs (and return the number of pieces delivered per delivery to levels not seen since the 70’s.
I could easily live with Monday, Wednesday, Saturday delivery.
I have mail that I sent out and it never got there.
Got one Right Now, WITH a check in it for some Collectibles I bought! Been almost a month,m; 3 states away. UNbelievabke!

The post office has been on the ropes for years now. Service getting worse. Prices getting higher. When are we going to get some competition and put this piece of crap, poorly run piece of ship business out of business?
Amazon, UPS & Fed Ex will benefit. Too bad Congress refuses to reverse their disasterious pension pre payment mandate made years ago. That is why they have been bleeding money.

The unions won’t let them cut labor costs. So how are they going to fix this?
Let UPS or FedEx deliver most mail items. And yes a couple of days per week for actual mail delivery should be more than enough.

Uh, how is this any different? Or do they really mean it will take 7-14 days? Heck, last Christmas things I mailed in late November were “delayed” somewhere until after Dec 25th. Then mis-delivered. Postal “service” is an oxymoron.
Biden has screwed up other days, weeks, months throughout his 10 months in office! What makes Christmas any different? As far as The Post Office is concerned, shouldn’t they raise the rates for delivery before getting slower again?

Instead of raising prices on the consumer, the USPS needs to find ways to improve the service. One such way would be to deliver both packages and mail to the door together. I realize that many times people are not available to answer the door at which time the mail box should be used. I call it customer appreciation or customer service.
Why don’t the Post Office stop delivering Amazon parcels and concentrate on first class mail instead? I’m a retired letter carrier and had the same route for 26 years and took pride delivering mail to the people on my route. Ninety five percent of the time all mail in my office was delivered by 3:30PM. Now we never know when mail is going to be delivered. About 10 days ago we got our mail after 8:00 PM. Carriers are making a lot of overtime because of all the parcels and that’s where the Postal service is taking a big loss. The routes are too big and there ate way too many parcels for the carriers. The Postal Service should get 2 or 3 larger trucks and make parcel post (only) routes. They will be cutting a lot of overtime by doing this.
I didn’t think they could get any slower.

The Left knows less than nothing about successfully running a business. Lesson one: COMPETITION is necessary to strip away those that do not provide the best product at the best price. Many things the Post Office does can be done on the internet very fast and virtually free. Big lesson for the Government is that you don’t get success by decreasing service and increasing price.
Just one more reason for me to put my butt in the car and go after my prescriptions instead of having them mailed to me. If they are misdirected, or stolen, I can’t get any more until the following month. This also is because of our inept government. The hurrier they go, the behinder they get.

The mail has sucked all year. We’ve only been getting mail about 3-4days a week now! Sometimes when we do get it it’s all torn up. Never send a package by USPS! It probably will never get there. I always send packages by UPS to make sure it gets there.
I should be on their payroll for all the times I’ve had to redeliver the mail. We’ve gotten stuff marked important tax information for people in other STATES even!!! Then there’s times we were told to expect something in a couple of days that never showed up.

There is no reason the mail should be slower. Last year it took 17 days for me to get my mothers day card from the south side of the city to the north side. I left a note in the mail box asking “where is my mothers day card?” It came a few days after that.
And we’re supposed to trust a government that can’t even run a post office to manage our health care and everything else.

Why does the Postal Service need to cut costs? They just raised the price of stamps. We used to get our mail at 10 A.M. a few days ago it was around 3 when the mail was delivered. Last spring, my husband mailed a payment for something to Kentucky, I believe. It took 30 days or more. Fortunately, there was a 30 days grace period.

Maybe it is so they can track your mail and not deliver what the government doesn’t want you to see. You know, all that conservative mail from groups, candidates…you can’t see that. Or perhaps they want you to do all your mail online so they can spy on what you are doing. It’s amazing how much mail is already “lost.”
