Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s five years as the Lone Star State’s top lawman was clouded from the very beginning with an indictment for felony securities fraud charges.
The Republican Party leadership and his top aides remained steadfastly behind him.
Until now.
Texas officials from Governor Greg Abbott (R) on down are voicing support for an investigation after seven senior officials in Paxton’s office called for federal authorities to “investigate allegations of improper influence, abuse of office, bribery and other potential crimes.”
Other Republicans, including GOP congressman and former Paxton aide Chip Roy, called on the AG to resign.

Fox News’ Megan Henney has more:
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick called the news “obviously concerning,” and echoed Abbott’s comments that he would “wait until the investigation is complete before making any additional comments.”

Their comments came one day after the Austin American-Statesman and KVUE-TV reported that seven high ranking members of Paxton’s office contacted the director of the human resources in the attorney general’s office regarding possible crimes. In a letter, the seven legal staffers wrote Paxton, a Republican, may have broken the law “in his official capacity as the current Attorney General of Texas.”
Late Sunday, the Houston Chronicle reported the accusations deal with Paxton’s relationship with embattled Austin real estate developer and campaign donor Nate Paul.
Paul, whose offices were reportedly raided by the FBI last year, gave Paxton $25,000 ahead of his re-election battle in 2018.
Paxton is refusing to step down and vehemently denies the allegations, claiming they came from “rogue employees.”

Help President Trump Stop Joe Biden [ACT NOW]
As A Texan, I must say this is Just, Too many Times that this has happened with Paxton….
This needs to be Handled Immediately, and He Needs To Be put on Administrative leave until it is proven or dis-proven, and if he IS guilty he needs to be in jail before years End….
Get the Rangers in there Today and sequester all of his records, accounts and get to work, and Greg Abbott needs to see to it, TODAY !….
If these are False Charges than the Person responsible needs to be in jail !…
Hes waiting trial on another matter. So this will be added. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
And waiting and waiting and waiting. Frankly, I have my doubts he broke any of the securities laws he was accused of. I’m not sure but I believe most if not all charges have already been thrown out.
good
If the accused was a Demon-crat, there would be a total media blackout, and a massive cover-up would be in progress. At least the Republicans don’t try to hide possible malfeasance when one of their own is suspected.
These days whenever a Republican is accused of any wrongdoing I have my doubts. Thank Democrats with their continuous false claims for that. And even when it’s fellow Republicans who do so given there are so many RINOs and establishment types who do not like conservatives. The Texas legislature if full of them and I wouldn’t be surprised if the AG’s office is too. But if Paxton is proved guilty as charged I will be among those who are calling for his removal.
