Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton is serving her first term representing the eastern end of the San Francisco Bay. Becton is one of several prominent prosecutors who received financial backing from lefty billionaire George Soros.
She went to work immediately overhauling how the DA’s office charged and prosecuted crimes for the county’s 1.2 million residents. That includes a “racial equity-minded” approach to how people will be charged for “looting.” (RedState)
In California, a looting charge essentially increases the severity of a burglary or theft charge if it occurred during a State of Emergency.
While no such order has been given in response to the riots, the entirety of the Golden State has been under a State of Emergency since March 4, 2020.
In any event, Becton’s charging guidelines for looting read:

i. Was the target business open or closed to the public during the state of emergency?
ii. What was the manner and means by which the suspect gained entry to the business?
iii. What was the nature/quantity/value of the goods targeted?
iv. Was the theft committed for financial gain or personal need?
v. Is there an articulable reason why another statute wouldn’t adequately address the particular incident?So, let’s get this straight. Deputy District Attorneys and/or the county’s law enforcement officers are supposed to go through a flow chart, including a psychological and financial analysis, to determine if looting charges should be filed?
Because that’s what’s happening right now.

Every police officer who has been murdered or maimed should he be required to compensate the families he has hurt.
