Poll Finds One-Third of 2020 Biden Voters Support Another Democrat for Nomination
A recent Suffolk University/USA Today poll revealed that approximately one-third of President Joe Biden’s 2020 voters either support an already declared Democrat candidate or are undecided about who they would vote for in a primary. The poll included 600 Biden voters who were identified from national and state polls from 2020 to 2022. 67 percent of Democrats who voted for Biden in 2020 want the president to win the Democrat nomination.
Findings of the Poll:
A recent Suffolk University/USA Today poll has found that 67% of Democrats who voted for President Joe Biden in 2020 want him to win the Democratic nomination again.
The poll also found that just under one-third of Biden’s 2020 voters either support another declared Democratic candidate or are undecided about who they would vote for in a primary.
According to Suffolk County Political Research Center Director David Peleologos, Kennedy, although a long shot at this point, starts in double digits and can’t be ignored.
The poll was conducted via landline and cellphone of 600 Biden voters, identified from national and state polls from 2020 to 2022. The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus four percentage points.
These findings come after a Morning Consult poll released last week, which found Biden at 70% of support with Democratic voters, Kennedy at 10%, and Williamson at 4%.
Kennedy Receives 14 Percent of Support Among 2020 Biden Voters
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of the late U.S. Attorney General Robert Kennedy, holds the support of 14 percent of 2020 Biden voters, according to the Suffolk University/USA Today poll. Kennedy launched his candidacy in Boston, Massachusetts, after the poll came out. Suffolk County Political Research Center Director David Peleologos told USA Today that Kennedy, although a long shot, starts in double digits and cannot be ignored.
Williamson Receives Support from 5 Percent of Biden Voters
Marianne Williamson, the first Democrat to enter the fray, receives support from five percent of 2020 Biden voters. She recently criticized Biden, who has not formally announced a reelection bid, for not doing enough for working-class Americans.
Kennedy Seeks to End “Corporate Feudalism”
At the Boston Park Plaza, Kennedy announced his candidacy and pledged to “end the corrupt merger of state and corporate power that is threatening now to impose a new kind of corporate feudalism on our country.” Though his family has a significant political legacy, Kennedy has found himself on the outs with the party’s establishment and with some members of his family, who plan to support Biden. Notably, his cousin Caroline Kennedy is the U.S. ambassador to Australia under the Biden administration, while his nephew Joe Kennedy III is the U.S. envoy to Northern Ireland.
