WATCH: Meet Hung Cao, the Navy combat veteran running for Congress | Washington Examiner

Hung Cao– he is a retired Navy special operator and former congressional candidate, announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for Senate in Virginia, highlighting his dedication to defending the nation in his announcement. Born to a family that immigrated from Vietnam after the Vietnam War, Cao grew up in Northern Virginia and subsequently served his country for 25 years in the Navy as a Special Operations Officer. His responsibilities included explosive ordinance disposal and deep sea recovery, with deployments spanning Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia. Cao’s military experience underpins his commitment to continued service to his country in a political role.

In the 2022 midterms, Cao ran for Virginia’s Tenth District, a seat won by Democrat Jennifer Wexton despite Cao’s strong performance, finishing within seven points of Wexton. As Cao prepares to challenge incumbent Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine, his military record, showcased in his previous campaigns, will continue to be an influential factor in his pursuit of the Senate seat. Emphasizing his reputation as a fighter, not a politician, Cao aims to bring his battlefield experience and tenacity to the political arena.
