Democratic Rep. Karen Bass, whos running for Mayor in Los Angeles, had her home burglarized on September 9. The thieves broke into Bass’s home, and managed to steal two guns from her home. Rep. Bass had to defend her ownership of a firearm, even after calling the safety of California a “10 out of 10”. Bass’s calling the safety of California a “10 out of 10” while crime rates rise and her personally owning a firearm points to hypocrisy in her previous comments on the safety of California, and her home being burglarized adds irony on top of her previous comments.

“I do feel safe,” Bass claimed during a mayoral debate five months ago. “I would say a 10. But I do understand that a lot of people around the city do not feel safe, and I respect that.”

The Democratic congresswoman also defended her possession of firearms, which reportedly surprised some city residents.

“I had guns for personal safety, as do many people. I think that gun control is extremely important,” the Democratic congresswoman said. “But I have never believed that people – if they wanted to have guns – should not have them.”

Two men were arrested in connection with the incident, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Patricio Munoz, 42, and Juan Espinoza, 24, were arrested Tuesday after authorities allegedly witnessed them getting into the same vehicle that was parked at Bass’ residence during the robbery. Both men have been charged with residential burglary.

In June, Bass told Fox News Digital that she plans to be “smart on crime” if elected mayor.

Democratic-run cities have had an uptick in crimes in recent years, and this has only been made worse since the George Floyd riots in 2020, along with the subsequent calling for defunding the police. As a result of defunding the police force, these cities have been left with unforced police forces and criminals who know they can get away with more than they used to. California has a large economy, and this usually allows them to avoid criticism about their state and government. However, their uptick in homelessness, drug use, and crime are becoming unavoidable.
