A school district in Philadelphia has now decided to reinstate a mask mandate for its students for the first ten days of the year in spite of massive pushback against the policy.

As Fox News reports:

The School District of Philadelphia is mandating that students and staff wear masks for the first 10 days of the school year, and is requiring that pre-kindergarten attendees mask-up all year.

Officials from the school district and city made the announcement in a letter to parents on Friday, stating that after the first 10 days of the school year, from Aug. 29 through Sept. 9, most schools will go mask-optional.

The letter states that when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 community transmission level is high, students and staff will be required to wear masks in schools. When the level is medium, masking is “strongly recommended.”

Students and staff at the district’s Pre-K Head Start program, the district’s income-driven pre-kindergarten program for ages 3-5, will be required to wear a mask for the entire 2022-2023 school year, according to the announcement.
Numerous medical analysts have now spoken out against the mandates, stating that there is little evidence to support their continued use.

Comments

  1. The younger the person, the lesser of a chance they have of acquiring the virus. I spent 40 years in a surgical environment, as a condition of employment we had a yearly mandatory “Fit Test” for masks. When the CDC mandated the masks, it was nothing more than a “feel good” measure, and did little to nothing to curtail or stop the spread. If 1% had their masks on correctly it would of been a high number.

  2. In July 2020, the state of New South Wales, Australia said young children were neither vectors of the virus between themselves or adults. Philly still hasn’t gotten the message.

  3. Those policies are quite discriminatory and divisive against children based upon age. What basis than they determine a 7 year old only needs a mask for 10 days while a 5 year old has to wear one ALL the time? Nothing here is scientific or empirically measured with the virus. Just quarantine sick children for 7 to 10 days and let the rest go. IF an outbreak occurs then a mask mandate with an effective mask should be worn for a limited period of time until that epidemic episode is on the decline.
