Two individuals have now been arrested for their alleged involvement in a brazen attempt to destroy what remains of a confederate monument in downtown Asheville, NC with a bomb.

As ABC 13 News reports:

Two people arrested in connection with “explosive hazardous devices” found in downtown Asheville are accused of setting off those devices at the site of a former monument. Now, police are looking for those who may have information about the incident.

On Monday, July 4, at around 11 p.m., the Asheville Police Department (APD) reported that its bomb squad was responding to the area of Biltmore and Patton Avenue for a possible explosive device.

In a press release, APD says Chioke Auden Fugate, 23, and Duncan Andrew Small, 30, have been accused of igniting “improvised explosive devices at Pack Square at the site of the former Vance Monument as spectators were departing the July 4th Independence Day Celebration.” The department adds that the devices were “IEDs similar to pipe bombs.”

APD says witnesses at the scene told officers they had overheard Small say he was going to attempt to blow up the remnants of the monument. No one was injured during the explosion.

Conservatives on Twitter were quick to point out the suspects alleged ties to far-left groups:

Both suspects had reportedly been spotted at a pro-abortion protest earlier in the week.

Comments

  1. Asheville is full of these people. Halfies. There should be a quick trial and then a hanging.

  2. Just a suggestion to those bright looking criminals. If you don’t agree with the things other people enjoy either look ina other direction or find another country to live in.
That monument is part of our country’s history. It is beautiful too.

  3. Being aligned with the BLM/Antifa criminals, they will be turned loose to pursue their concepts of Freedom. No charges, move along, nothing to see here.
