Senator John Cornyn speaking at the 2012 CPAC in Washington, D.C. Via Wikimedia Commons.

On Wednesday, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) brushed off opposition by groups such as the National Rifle Association (NRA) and others. This move comes after Cornyn and 13 other Republicans voted to advance an anti-gun bill In the Senate, with Cornyn leading negotiations with Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT).

Breitbart reports:

The bill expands background checks for some gun buyers, uses taxpayer money incentivize red flag laws, and broadens the NICS prohibited purchasers’ list (by using domestic violence statutes to cover dating relationships).

The bill also heightens penalties for straw purchases and gun trafficking, neither of which crimes were part of the Uvalde, Buffalo, Parkland, Las Vegas, or Orlando attacks, to name a few.

The NRA responded to the gun control by saying it “falls short at every level.”

They added, “This legislation can be abused to restrict lawful gun purchases, infringe upon the rights of law-abiding Americans, & use fed dollars to fund gun control measures being adopted by state & local politicians.”

Mediaite reported that Cornyn spoke to MSNBC Wednesday and said, “We worked with the NRA to listen to their concerns. But in the end I think they simply — they have a membership and a business model that will not allow them to support any legislation. And so I understand where they’re coming from, but I think most people will not allow any outside group to veto good public policy.”

What exactly are they taking away from you? How would this not line up exactly with what the constitution’s 2 nd amendment says about “…a well regulated militia”?

Typical Liberal, interpreting only the first clause of the 2nd Amendment and leaving out the second clause which says “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
All of this proposal infringes that Right, and none of it would have or will prevent future Shootings. Nothing in this bill would have stopped the Buffalo and Uvalde Shootings.

Here we go again – libtards pick and choose what parts of Amendments they like, but totally disregard parts they DO NOT like in an Amendment – TRY this on for size:

  1. 2nd Amendment – A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Most important part is underlined for you.

The problem Jon, is the red flag laws this bill supports. Red flag laws would remove an individual’s right to due process. Please, educate yourself.

Gun control, gun safety, gun violence ,assault weapons , high capacity , are all red herrings to distract from the real problem; too many CRAZY people on the loose. Have you noticed , CRAZY people never hurt themselves; that is why the car is not used as a murder weapon . There is too much chance of self injury. As soon as the PUNISHMENT becomes great enough , crazy behavior will stop.

Time to pull your head out of the sand. You have no idea what you’re talking about. How much of your rights are you willing to give up so you can feel safe? Yes they do have mass shootings only they are sanctioned by the governments. Don’t believe me? Look it up.

John Cornyn has finally exposed himself as Anti Gun and a disgrace to the
State of Texas. He has turned his back upon the Gun owners who supported
him regarless of his semi left wing leanings. At this point in time he can
kiss my voted GOODBYE. In the past I Held my nose and voted for him but
no more. He is a useless bottom feeder who has forgotten his oath of office
and promises to the voters.

So doing something over 80% of the people in our country support, including myself, an owner of multiple guns, is being anti gun? Why can’t I bear a nuclear arm to protect my house?

Actually 80 percent do NOT support gun confiscation without due cause and due process. Red flag laws in most states ignore due process entirely.

Over sampling of Democrats & liberals is not 80% of TRUE Americans, it is just over sampling of 80% of Democrats & liberals and as anyone with 1/2 a brain knows Democrats & liberals will lie, cheat & kill to get their way….would be why we have so many mass shootings.

I’d say most or any fun you own probably leaks water. You’re not a gun owner. 85% say no more gun laws. Gun laws only affect innocent people. Criminals don’t care. They don’t purchase firearms at a dealer. If you’ve got that much money to buy nuclear weapons you probably have armed security around you, which is doubtful. P

73% of your fellow democraps still support Biden. What does that tell you? What that tells me is that morons like you are true idiots, if you believe any kind of gun regulations coming out of this administration will ever have a positive affect. Instead of going after the criminals, which they aren’t, this is just another step in their endless attack on the American people and the second amendment.I really detest people like you, better than saying hate. People like you are part reason we find this country is in the current state we find our country in. Definitely no problem seeing which side of the door you were on when they handle out brain. Just another anti- american zelot. You should be ashamed, to turn on your fellows american’s in this way.

Same here. He is opening the door for gun confiscation for sins reported by ANY one that has a personal vendetta, and there will only be suing to get them back as a recourse. VERY few people have the time or money to do so. So DUE Process be damned. Cornyn WILL be primaried. Count on it.
