Republicans swept up a massive victory in South Texas, where Mayra Flores defeated Democrat Dan Sanchez to reclaim the seat formerly held by ex-Rep. Filemon Vela, a Democrat. The special election marked the first time since the Civil War that Republicans won in that part of the state.
