President Biden is now reportedly under fire after he made a statement in which he claimed that America’s children ‘belong’ to their teachers when they’re in school.
As The Washington Examiner reports:
President Joe Biden ‘s statement that children belong to their teachers while at school has drawn criticism from conservative activists, who are engaged in a major political battle across the country over parents’ rights in education.
The president made the comments on Wednesday during a White House event honoring the 2022 national and state teachers of the year.
“You’ve heard me say it many times about our children, but it’s true: They’re all our children,” the president said in his remarks . “And the reason you’re the Teachers of the Year is because you recognize that. They’re not somebody else’s children; they’re like yours when they’re in the classroom.”
Ian Prior, the executive director of political action committee Fight for Schools and a senior adviser at America First Legal , called the president’s comments “appalling” and compared them to an infamous 2021 comment by former Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe in which the candidate said he didn’t “think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”
Taking on wokeness among teachers has become a major new issue energizing the base of the GOP in recent years, with many claiming it was responsible for the election of Republican Governor Glen Youngkin in 2021.

P.S.-under NYS law, while in the classroom (and school properties), in the absence of their parents (or guardians), the Teacher is required to be the ‘Local Parent’, required to on site parent with all the legal responsibilities of the legal parent.
So in a sense, the Biden (at least in NYS) is correct. As a teacher, I am sure that other states have similar laws as for the protection of the children. It will take a court hearing to determine how the teacher’s mandate responsibilities far must be enforced.
As a former teacher in Indiana that was, also, my understanding about my responsibilities. However, I also believe we were not expected to indoctrinate our students with our political beliefs.
