A new poll is now showing bad news for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, at least if he intends are running in the Republican primary in 2024.

As The Hill reports:

Former President Trump dominates the field of potential contenders for the 2024 Republican presidential nod, but Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is an early favorite for the nomination in the event that Trump doesn’t run again, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll shared exclusively with The Hill.

In a hypothetical eight-person GOP presidential primary, Trump holds a clear edge, garnering 57 percent support among Republican voters. DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence are nearly deadlocked at 12 percent and 11 percent, respectively. No other would-be candidate tested in the poll registers double-digit support.

Should Trump forgo another campaign for the White House, however, DeSantis would supplant him as the frontrunner. The Florida governor scores 30 percent support in a field that doesn’t include Trump, while Pence takes second place at 24 percent.

The poll also comes amid heightened tensions between Trump and DeSantis, who is up for reelection this year but has been seen as a strong potential contender for the 2024 Republican nomination.

Still it should be noted that it is still very early in the potential 2024 primary cycle and it is not uncommon for numbers to shift radically during competitive primary seasons, with the early favorite frequently being deposed by an upstart challenger.

    1. Yes indeed! I would not extol ‘my fantastic vaccine’ too loudly if I were Mr. Trump. Look at the neurological syndromes and deaths it seems to cause.

  2. So its bad news to be 2nd to Donald Trump having never run for national office before??? Who is writing these articles? That is an absurd statement and Trump is the most popular Republican since Reagan so to be 2nd to that is quite an accomplishment. No one knows Desantis yet on the national stage, they will like him, maybe not as much as Trump but they will like him and his policies (the most important feature of Trump and Desantis). Trump will win the 2024 Primary and hopefully go on to his 2nd term to fix what Joe Biden has broken. Desantis comes in in 2028 and hopefully builds off of Trump getting the country back on its feet from the life support Biden put us on, and Desantis moves the country leaps and bounds ahead of where we are today. This is going to take a team effort, don’t underestimate the level of damage Biden has already done and more importantly the level of destruction he will do trying to fix his own mistakes in his first year!

  3. Personally, I pray Trump doesn’t run again. If he’s nominated, I’ll vote for him, but DeSantis(to me) is far more electable, and is far more capable of governing, without the childish name-calling. Trump is entertaining, but ridiculing even his allies is something I can do without!

  4. Lotta time between now and Primary. Either is a likely winner against the Democrat Field. Similar on policy matters. Trump personality is too abrasive, DeSantis ahead there. Make no mistake, Media and Democrats will treat either with the usual distain. Trump is a bigger target though.
