Arch-Bishiop Desmond Tutu, one of the key figures of the struggle against apartheid in South Africa has now died at the age of 90.

As The Hill reports:

South African anti-apartheid leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu died Sunday due to complication from cancer at the age of 90.

Tutu died in Cape Town, South Africa, the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation said in a statement.

“Tutu was a living embodiment of faith in action, speaking boldly against racism, injustice, corruption, and oppression, not just in apartheid South Africa but wherever in the world he saw wrongdoing, especially when it impacted the most vulnerable and voiceless in society,” the foundation said.

Throughout the years of apartheid in South Africa, Tutu served as a guiding force in the nonviolent anti-apartheid movement. His work in helping to end the apartheid earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.

Tutu had formerly ‘retired’ from public life when he reached 79 years old but has continued to periodically speak out on issues that were of international importance.

  1. He was an antisemite. He did some good things but his out hatred of Jewish people negates it all. His rest will not be peaceful, God will see to that and God will judge his wickedness.

    1. It has been said of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, that Marie Curie received two Nobel Peace Prizes he received just one. Some believe they should give two to Tutu too. Other than that I cannot think of anything worthwhile to say about the man, a sufferer and propagator of the dreaded antisemitism virus.

  2. I guess that I just don’t understand how someone can fight against unjust discrimination while being so discriminate against another group of people. Ah yes, the Nobel prize. It’s like giving Hitler a Nobel prize because he united German arians in their hatred of the Jews. To me it’s like giving an award to a failing student because they tried so hard.
