Sen. Cortez Masto, a first-term senator who narrowly won her election for the seat in 2017 is now facing strong opposition from the state’s former Attorney General Adam Laxalt, the son of long-time former U.S. Sen. for New Mexico Pete Domenici. According to CNN, “Republicans think he could motivate the base and gain traction as a former statewide elected official, while Democrats are eager to tie him to Trump and his efforts to overturn the election.”
