Democrats are in danger of losing their tie-breaker majority in the U.S. Senate, with their own polls showing a key Democrat pickup struggling to win re-election this year.
Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock, who just last November won a seat held by appointed Republican Senator Kelley Loeffler, is watching his approval ratings tumble as voters are increasingly unhappy with the direction of the country.
“Liberal pollster Public Policy Polling (PPP) released a new Georgia poll that shows Senator Raphael Warnock’s approval rating sliding. The poll, with a D+3 sample, shows Warnock’s approval rating at a paltry 43%, virtually tied with his disapproval rating. Warnock’s approval sits 3 points lower than President Biden who he votes in lockstep with,” the National Republican Senate Committee reports.
Warnock must run for re-election a year after winning the seat in a special election, as it was vacated by former Senator Johnny Isakson, who retired due to Parkinson’s disease. Warnock flipped the seat to Republicans by defeating the fill-in appointee, with Democrat Jon Ossoff defeating Republican David Perdue in the regularly scheduled election for Georgia’s other seat.
But rising inflation and a resurgence of COVID-19 has voters looking for a way to express frustration with a hapless Biden administration and Democrat majorities.
“Much like other vulnerable senators across the country, Warnock is being bogged down by the leftward lurch of the Democrat Party. While it is no surprise that Warnock is a liberal, Georgians realize that it is the policies pushed by people like Bernie Sanders, AOC and Raphael Warnock that are exacerbating inflation, making our communities unsafe, and forcing companies to leave Georgia,” the NRSC says.
“Raphael Warnock is beginning to realize that taking liberal votes has consequences in Georgia. As inflation continues to spike, and the results of Democrat policies negatively impact our communities, Warnock will be held responsible by Georgians,” says NRSC spokesman T.W. Arrighi.
