The Biden Administration fully halted all executions of federal prisoners on Thursday citing an alleged disparate impact perpetuated by the death penalty against people of color.
As The Daily Wire reports:
On Thursday, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland blocked federal executions, writing to his Department of Justice in a memo that the application of the death penalty had exhibited “arbitrariness in its application, disparate impact on people of color.”
Garland wrote:
The Department of Justice must ensure that everyone in the federal criminal justice system is not only afforded the rights guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States, but is also treated fairly and humanely. That obligation has special force in capital cases. Serious concerns have been raised about the continued use of the death penalty across the country, including arbitrariness in its application, disparate impact on people of color, and the troubling number of exonerations in capital and other serious cases. Those weighty concerns deserve careful study and evaluation by lawmakers. In the meantime, the Department must take care to scrupulously maintain our commitment to fairness and humane treatment in the administration of existing federal laws governing capital sentences.

In July 2019, then-Attorney General Bill Barr reinstated capital punishment, asserting, “Congress has expressly authorized the death penalty through legislation adopted by the people’s representatives in both houses of Congress and signed by the President. Under Administrations of both parties, the Department of Justice has sought the death penalty against the worst criminals, including these five murderers, each of whom was convicted by a jury of his peers after a full and fair proceeding. The Justice Department upholds the rule of law—and we owe it to the victims and their families to carry forward the sentence imposed by our justice system.”

In the early 90s when I was volunteering to build low income housing for very low income people – not one person appreciated it – ever. During the same period, the dems proposed the same issue – we incarcerate a larger percentage of minorities. Yes, in SF and the Bay Area, 95% of the inmates were minority. They were looking for 23-24 of them that had escaped. The Press Democrat in the Santa Rosa area posted their pictures on the front page of the newspaper asking if anyone had seen these criminals at large. We keep giving out welfare and hundreds of social programs – but no incentive to clean up your life – so why not get jailed? The wife and kids are taken care of by the taxpayers, and they all vote for democrats to keep the money coming. Maybe we change welfare and jail for work like sheriff Arpio used to do in AZ. Crime was down and manageable then – except for the bleeding hearts that have no clue what goes on outside their door. America has been dumbed down – think you are free – look again.
In all this article and all the comments that have come after it there is one very important thing left out, not even mentioned. The subject at the heart of all this discussion is the color or race of the people who get the ultimate penalty. Nobody that I can tell has mentioned the victims of these convicted criminals. Does it matter what race the victims were or does anyone care? Do the loved ones, the familys and friends of the victims get to have a say about any of this? I would hope so, but I don’t think Biden or his speech writers have thought about it.
One aspect of this racial emphasis would define my campaign, if I ever decide to seek public office. There are people I call “Hyphenated Citizens”, who preface their nation of residence with a foreign country or region. Somehow, that title bestows upon them a special status, which our government is supposed to consider. However, as has been stated many, many times, there are more murders committed by people of color; just take a look at the statistics. I happen to believe that execution, as punishment for murder, no matter how hideous, is both a deterrent and justified. After all, that guilty person took another’s life unexpectedly. The death penalty should not be abolished but should be reserved for those in which they are plainly guilty 100% with a preponderance of evidence. Society should not have to pay twice; once by the victim and then by everyone else to house the perpetrator who may escape or be released and then commit another crime.

The sole beneficiaries of this process are lawyers, who can make a career out of a single murder conviction. The problem id not with the use of the death penalty the problem is the years and sometimes decades of delay between commission of the crime and the execution of the perpetrator. the old adage applies in these cases . . . . . JUSTICE DELAYED is JUSTICE DENIED once the killer is convicted there should be a date set for the execution and it should not be changed unless the man appeals and the conviction is reversed before the date of execution.
