The mainstream media’s non-stop efforts to blame former President Donald Trump for an unfolding immigration crisis at the U.S./Mexico border appears to have backfired as a new poll shows more Americans blame President Joe Biden.
Forty-four percent of registered voters in the latest Hill-HarrisX poll say Biden is “more responsible for the current situation at the U.S./Mexico border,” while only 28 percent said Trump is more responsible.
Twenty percent of voters blame “both equally” while seven percent said “neither” was responsible.
The poll found that while Biden is still enjoying a “honeymoon” period of high job approval many incoming presidents initially see, his handling of immigration gives him his lowest markets, with just 50 percent overall approval.
The poll was conducted as a surge of migrants attempting to cross the border could lead to more illegal crossings in 2021 than in any year in the last two decades.
That number includes a record amount of unaccompanied children, sent to the U.S. by parents in Central America who were told by traffickers their kids would get amnesty from the Biden administration and a better life. Despite the deadly risks of sending children across Mexico and into the U.S. illegally, parents still feel it is safer than remaining in countries where drug cartels are growing more violent and poverty worsening.
The poll’s findings fly in the face of claims by the media and Biden administration that Trump is responsible, despite leaving office three months ago.
The media and Biden administration claim the crisis is caused by Trump not sending enough foreign aid to Central America and failing to address “climate change,” which they claim is sending migrants north.
“We are rebuilding the orderly systems that the Trump administration tore down to avoid the need for these children to actually take the perilous journey, and we are investing, we are investing in those countries,” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told CNN, adding that Biden planned to send hundreds of millions of dollars to Central American countries “to avoid the need for these children to take the perilous journey.”
Trump’s previous budgets included hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign aid to Central American countries as well as support for many “climate change” programs.
