Billionaire media mogul Michael Bloomberg’s strategy to invest heavily in the delegate-rich Super Tuesday states did not pay off. In fact, the presidential hopeful, long considered a dark horse by the pundit class, did not finish better than third place in any of last night’s primaries.
Per CNBC:
“Three months ago, I entered the race for President to defeat Donald Trump,” Bloomberg said in a statement. “Today, I am leaving the race for the same reason: to defeat Donald Trump – because it is clear to me that staying in would make achieving that goal more difficult.”
Bloomberg’s embarrassing finish Tuesday night was the first time he was on the ballot.
The billionaire and former New York City mayor spent more than $500 million on campaign advertising, but of the 14 states and territories at stake on March 3, he was only able to take American Samoa.
Bloomberg jumped into the campaign for the Democratic nomination in November, following weeks of teasing a potential bid. Earlier in 2019, Bloomberg had completely ruled out the possibility of running for president.
Bloomberg’s late entry and his campaign’s nascent ground game forced him to bypass the critical early states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

Well another couple snakes slither back into there holes. Sorry Clint Eastwood , your endorsement didn’t take Mike anywhere. I am glad to see him and Amy drop out. Sanders should be the democrats candidate as he is at least showing America what they are voting for if they vote for a democrat. What you get is a socialist/communist. If that is what you want ,get the hell out of my country and move to where they already live. Our great Americans fought and died for our constitutional republic. We don’t need the crap the socialists are selling or the communists want to shove down our throats when they are in charge.
Thank you (and Tom Steyer) for clearly demonstrating money can’t buy national elections. However, your money did buy several State wide elections and local DA elections in States you don’t live in. And that demonstrates the potential evil mega-rich people like you can cause by imposing your political beliefs on those who may disagree with your ideology. Shame on you for that.
Gee! How come I didn’t see any of his campaign messages? Oh! That’s right, I don’t watch the “Lame Stream Media”! Lucky me! Who are all the people that got paid his millions? It is really bad when 600 million dollars can’t even buy you friends. The hundreds of millions he spent during the midterms was the only reason that the Republicans lost the House of Representatives.
