Only the Beginning?

The coronavirus has proved to be one of the greatest threats to the country in a long time, but pandemics do not last forever, and after it fades, the aftermath will carry new threats to the nation and the world at large. Epidemics like this occur about once every 100 years, and they always shake global trade and international relations; the coronavirus is no different.

Here are the biggest challenges that will come after the coronavirus passes:

Global Depression

The possibility of global trade coming to a screeching halt is entirely plausible. The coronavirus has slowed the global economy, and if future rounds of reliefs don’t arrive promptly, it could create a global depression worse than the financial crisis of 2008.

Only time will tell.

America Left Behind

The Chinese government discarded what few rights its people enjoyed to quickly rebuild its infrastructure. However, this development will leave the world’s most populous country in a better economic position after the pandemic has come and gone, potentially giving China the upper hand in trade negotiations.

We may never fully appreciate the brutal crackdown by the Chinese government against its people in the past few months to accomplish this feat due to the endless stream of propaganda emanating from Beijing.

Chinese Propaganda Unchecked

There are numerous lessons to take from this epidemic. Still, one of the most salient is that western journalists and media organizations – afraid of being labeled racist – fall victim to Chinese propaganda. The World Health Organization praised the Chinese government despite the fact that they had covered up the existence of the virus and committed crimes against humanity in the process of doing so. “Woke” mainstream media outlet praised China and even used Beijing’s preferred language, stamping out all references to the Wuhan coronavirus and slandering those who still used the phrase as xenophobic.

Global Paradigm Shift?

Depending on the coronavirus’ length and severity, countries could see their standings in the international community dramatically rise or fall.

Whether or not that will have significant geopolitical implications remains to be seen. Right now, the race for the vaccine continues, and governments try their best to deliver aid to citizens in need.

One thing is for sure: thanks to their response, some countries will be doing significantly better after this pandemic than others.
