While it’s unclear what political orientation Tim Allen is, it’s impossible to gauge if this tweet makes him out to be some kind of Republican – as opposed to a man who can see and hear that Joe Biden isn’t completely there mentally.
Democrats who ride or die with Joe Biden decided to flock to Tim Allen’s tweet. While some simple commented that the joke is stale – others took it up a notch. Comments about Tim Allen’s 1978 cocaine arrest, as well as calling him a washed-up comedian quickly came in droves.
Tim Allen is a successful comedian, and essentially everyone has seen movies featuring Tim Allen – I don’t believe Allen is being kept awake at night due to verified nobodies on Twitter (typically struggling to find a job or scratch 1,000 followers) commenting about some arrest or thinking a man with worldwide fame is “washed up”.
Twitter users also took jabs at the decision to not cast Tim Allen as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the newest Toy Story installment – as Disney chose to cast Chris Evans. However, the movie was a complete flop, so one can assume that if Tim Allen were to have to miss a Toy Story installment, this would be a good one to miss.
“And this, kids, is why Tim Allen isn’t the voice of Buzz Lightyear anymore,” one social media user wrote in part.
The casting change was met with criticism by Allen’s fans and several of his friends in the industry.
“Everybody Loves Raymond” alumna Patricia Heaton blasted the move, writing on Twitter, “Saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns.
“Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?”
Allen’s longtime “Toy Story” co-star Tom Hanks told CinemaBlend that he “didn’t understand” the recasting of Allen’s character.
For his part, the “Last Man Standing” actor said that he decided to “stay out” of the Pixar prequel since it “had nothing to do” with his portrayal of Buzz Lightyear.
Meanwhile, some critics of Allen’s latest tweet made reference to his 1978 arrest for drug trafficking. Allen served almost two and half years in federal prison after he was found with more than a pound of cocaine at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan.
He avoided a potential life imprisonment sentence after striking a deal in which he provided the names of other drug dealers, according to Time magazine.
Allen reflected on his arrest and time in prison during an 2021 interview on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast. “I was an eff-up,” he admitted. He went on to explain that he had started drinking alcohol at a young age and his substance abuse increased significantly after the death of his father in a car crash. After being released from prison, Allen said he became committed to straightening out his life. He has been sober for more than two decades.
A number of Allen’s fans came to his defense after the uproar following his Tweet. Several Twitter users pointed out that the joke was fairly innocuous.
“Really?… twitter is trying to cancel sitcom dad, Tim Allen, for telling a dad joke?… buttery soft,” one user tweeted.
Many acted as if poking fun at Biden was something immoral to do. This could be due to how the left views Biden – viewing Biden as the anti-Trump, and to criticize Biden in any way is giving ammunition to supporters of Donald Trump, so it can’t be done.
While jabs at Tim Allen’s substance abuse weren’t criticized, one could point out how Democrats always react when they’re reminded of the Hunter Biden story. Democrats have immediate meltdowns when Hunter Bidens pictures, videos, texts, or anything else is discussed or shown.
Democrats, in large part, have to be aware that Biden isn’t mentally sharp anymore. Electing Biden was just a means to an end of getting Trump out of office, and they could care less about Joe Biden’s performance as President of the United States. However, these shots at Joe Biden point to insecurities they have in Biden, and they don’t want someone with nearly 1 million Twitter followers to sway people’s thoughts on Biden’s mental competency because they could open the door to Trump walking back into the White House in 2024.
