Edwards V. Vannoy

Thedrick Edwards was sentenced to life in prison in Louisiana for multiple robberies and rape. At the time of his trial, the state allowed for conviction of a 10-2 vote. In April of 2020, the Supreme Court ruled on Ramos v. Louisana that the Sixth Amendment establishes the right to a unanimous jury in federal and state courts. Edwards is now arguing that he would not have been convicted had he been tried in a federal court or a state other than Louisiana. The Supreme Court will determine if the decision made in Ramos v. Louisiana will apply retroactively to cases on federal review
