Epidemiologists warn that jails and prisons are highly susceptible to COVID-19 outbreaks. But that reality doesn’t explain the baffling decision made by officials in Monroe County, New York.
As part of a broader initiative by the Empire State, authorities in Monroe County released 50 prisoners, including child sex offenders, and dumped some of them off at a local hotel. (Daily Wire)
“Eight registered sex offenders have been released from the Monroe County Jail as part of a statewide order coming from The Department of Corrections and Community Services– or DOCCS,” WIVB reported Sunday.
According to the Monroe County Sheriffs’ Office, more than 50 inmates were released Saturday from the county jail, nine of whom were dumped at a local Holiday Inn Express in the town of Greece.
“Among the inmates known to be staying at the Holiday Inn Express are four registered sex offenders,” the WIVB report said. “Three of whom are registered as level 3 sex offenders and are deemed by New York courts as most likely to re-offend. All three of the level 3 sex offenders staying at the Holiday Inn Express have been convicted for the rape of minors.”
DOCCS apparently ordered a release of “low-level technical parole violators” over COVID-19 concerns, though, again, it remains unclear if there were even any confirmed cases within the jail.

I get where you’re coming from; I too hate sex offenders – especially those who hurt children.
But remember what God said “Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord.” God will deal with them justly and in HIS own time. If you think those people grate you and I the wrong way, God is much more offended over it than either of us.
Let’s just hope they don’t hurt any children while they’re out of prison and if they do, someone else may do exactly what you recommended.
Nearly all sex offenders will repeat their crimes. These people cannot be cured. They should never be released upon the unsuspecting public.
If any one of them commits a crime the victim or family should file suit for damages against those who authorized the release. Is it legal for anyone other than the parole board or governor to release a criminal who has been convicted and sentenced by a court? Perhaps those released were awaiting trial?

To keep the prisoners free from the Chinese virus, the prison officials should have not allowed visitors to the inmates, screened the staff for any contact with corona-virus persons, for a one or two month period ! Life within the prison could go on as usual as the prison would have been secured from persons who might have contacted the Chinese virus. Isn’t that what prisons are for, secure isolation from the rest of society !

BTW, the decision to release the criminals was not made by anyone in Monroe County. It was ORDERED buy the Democrats running the state in Albany. The Monroe County Sherriff did NOT want to release them and thought it was a stupid idea.
The sheriff should have handcuffed two of them together at a time before sticking them in the hotel. That would have made life more difficult for any of them trying to return to a life of crime.

I think the officials who are going to be letting the criminals out of prison because of the virus
should instead put those they let out under house arrest and then house them in thier homes so they can keep an eye on them. At least then perhaps they will not go straight out and commit more crimes. Of course, I doubt the New York politicians would like the idea very much.
The ones that made the decision to release the inmates should go to jail themselves for breaking them out of jail. At least give the prisoners that were released their address’s so they can thank them personally.
