The shocking news from Afghanistan this weekend have now echoed around the world: the US-backed government has now completely collapsed with the President fleeing the country and the Taliban are now in indisputable control of the capital of Kabul while what remains of US forces in the region are confined to the tiny Kabul airport where scenes of chaos and death are unfolding at an alarming speed.

Five people have now reportedly been killed at the airport in unclear circumstances, it has also been reported that American troops tasked with maintaining order have been forced to repeatedly fire warning shots to keep the mob at bay.
As of Monday morning, the 5,000 plus strong force of US soldiers and marines is still trapped at the airport along with potentially thousands of US and European nationals who are still awaiting evacuation.
