The athletic wear company has been linked to a Qingdao factory that employed Uyghur workers to make millions of pairs of shoes. Nike said the factory stopped hiring workers from Xianjing for the factory in 2019. The company released a statement in March that its suppliers are not using any materials from the region. The Nike global communications director, Greg Rossiter said the company did not directly oppose the legislation but had “constructive discussions” with congressional aides regarding changes to the bill.
