Hunter Biden’s legal team is under scrutiny for alleged deceptive courtroom statements, tied to a plea deal in a lawsuit accusing Biden of illicit firearm possession and federal tax evasion. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith expressed concern over potential political interference, submitting a legal document demanding a review of the plea deal. This came after an IRS whistleblower claimed the Justice Department attempted to curtail the investigation.
Biden’s attorney, Jessica Bengles, is accused of masking her identity to sway a court official into removing Smith’s document from the records. U.S. District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika has called for an explanation from Biden’s legal team, raising the possibility of disciplinary action.
Interestingly, Bengles’ firm once employed Biden’s lawyer, Christopher Clark. Clark’s office promptly communicated to the court that the depiction of events was inaccurate. Biden’s legal team denied involvement, suggesting the court official independently removed the filing, attributing the incident to a misunderstanding, not intentional deceit.
Amidst the controversy, Judge Noreika temporarily sealed Smith’s document, barring public disclosure until the conclusion of Biden’s plea hearing. While disciplinary measures may be considered, rejection of the plea deal seems unlikely. It’s anticipated that the agreement will allow Biden to avoid jail time.
