Calls are now emerging for states and localities across America to drastically cut their gasoline taxes, many of which were originally enacted by liberals, in order to attempt to offset the massive pain at the pump currently being experienced by most Americans.

As Jospeh Curl of the The Daily Wire explains:

Releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), a move the president always has at his disposal, would drop prices a bit, for just a few weeks or maybe a couple months, but the only real ways out of the situation is to produce more oil at home or to import more from abroad.

Still, there is a short-term option to reduce prices on Americans: Suspend federal and state taxes on gasoline. And talk about that very move is suddenly on everyone’s lips.

Dubbed a “gas tax holiday,” ABC News reported “an increasing number of governors and state lawmakers are calling for the suspension of gas taxes to provide relief to motorists who are facing the prospect of even higher pump prices as the country cuts off Russian oil imports.”

Calls to suspend gas taxes are also growing on Capitol Hill. Bills are pending in both the House and Senate to create a gas-tax holiday, with each planning to offset lost revenue by using general fund money to fund state highway and public transit programs.

Still it remains to be see whether such measures, even if passed, would be able to offset the major gas hike Americans are expected to experience over the next several months.

  1. But taxes are the manna FreeTime m heaven to politicians. If we take a “holida” people might question why we pay them all the time. That could lead to insurrection and treason. Yeah sarcasm.

  2. Perhaps if they got rid of the Treasonous Bastard in the Whitehouse we could start pumping our own oil!

  3. Hey Joe, put the pudding cup down….and open the freakin’ pipeline!! By the way……you’re an idiot.

  4. How about finish building the keystone pipeline. Control our southern border. Stop spending America taxes on bull crap democrats agenda items. We need to stop all spending period.

  5. This gasoline fiasco is just another self inflicted lethal wound Dementia Hidin’ Biden and the dumb Dems have made to themselves and another weapon for us, Republicans, to use in the midterms this fall and again in 2024! Biden had better listen to someone who knows the solution instead of listening to his marxists “green new deal” advisors. The American people are not going to be able to buy food for their families as the cost of shipping gets added to the cost of the food! Then there is inflation on the cost of everything else! I feel a DEEP DEPRESSION on the horizon if things don’t turn around and go in the “right” direction NOW!

  6. Reinstate President Trump’s sane tactics of: A strong BORDER WALL, finishing (it would be operational NOW–were it not quashed ). And remove all the “mandated” restrictions on American (we have over a Two Hundred Years supply in the ground here) OIL & GAS–
Americas traded a smart President for a demented one.

  7. Let’s start with reducing diesel taxes to the same level as gasoline prices. Currently, even though diesel engines are more efficient and use less fuel than gasoline engines, diesel fuel is penalized with higher taxes than gasoline. Encouraging more diesel engines would reduce use of fuel, reduce dependence on foreign oil and use of our resources, and reduce fuel prices.

  8. The gas tax is supposed to pay for highways and upkeep on them. The dumocrats who are looking to decrease taxes will destroy decent transportation routes. get ready for a rough ride.

  9. DRILL BABY, DRILL! Refine Our own from Our own backyards! The sooner, the better! Make Democrats wear masks that cover their eyes and ears and this country will be just fine! Read stories to Democrats about Humming-birds, butterflies and Unicorns and they should be happy!!!

  10. Cutting the taxes on gasoline won’t help at all. The average State tax on a gallon of gas is about 30 Cents and the federal tax about 18.4 Cents. That’s a total of 48.4 Cents per gallon. With the price of gas having gone up more than that much in the last two weeks, cutting the taxes amounts to putting a band-aide on a sword cut.

The only viable solution to the energy problem is to go back to the policies in place before January 21, 2021. The “Green New Deal” is beyond a disaster in trying to force a rapid restructuring of our energy structure.

  11. What happened to “America has more oil reserves” than anyone (except the Russians?
I understood that we had so much we could actually export it, rather than import from others?
