According to new reports Senator Joe Manchin may be considering punting on President Joe Biden’s ambitious ‘Build Back Better’ agenda, a move that could effectively kill the Biden’s hopes for another major legislative victory.
As Axios reports:
Red-hot inflation data validates the instinct of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to punt President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda until next year — potentially killing a quick deal on the $1.75 trillion package, people familiar with the matter tell Axios.
Why it matters: The data released Wednesday set the president and White House staff scrambling. Slowing down work on the massive tax-and-spending plan is against the fervent desire of the administration and House progressives.
- With a limited number of legislative days left in the year, Manchin is content to focus on the issues that need to be addressed, Axios is told.

Manchin, like a group of House moderates, also wants to see a Congressional Budget Office analysis of the true cost of each of Biden’s proposed programs, as well as the tax proposals to fund them.
Manchin’s decision to punt on the bill is likely to result in more than a mere delay for the bill however, with many Democrats being forced to run for reelection in 2022 and most analysts predicting a GOP sweep of one or both houses of Congress in the midterm elections a further delay may very well signal the death of what remains of Joe Biden’s legislative agenda.
Manchin has more guts and wisdom than the Rinos in Congress. I sure hope he switches parties or at least becomes an Independent. He stands for more of what conservatives want than a lot of current Republicans in the House and Senate do.

He drives a Maserati partly because of his personal interests in the coal industry. The climate change junk in the bill probably is not favorable to those interests. He also knows that with the political climate toward Demonrats right now, his seat could be in jeopardy next time around. He always plays both ends against the middle. We’ll see where his vote ends up.
