GOP State Rep. Aaron von Ehlinger has now been forced to resign from his position in the Idaho statehouse after being accused of raping a 19-year-old intern.
Ehlinger’s resignation came just hours after a House Ethics Committee recommended suspending him over his alleged behavior.
As The Hill reports:
According to the newspaper, his resignation letter was read on the state House floor.
“It is my hope that this action spares my good colleagues any more difficulty in this area,” the letter said. “I maintain my innocence of any wrongdoing of which I have been accused in this matter, let alone any violation of any law, rule or policy of the state of Idaho or of this body.”

The Idaho House Ethics and House Policy Committee recommended censuring Ehlinger and suspending him on Thursday amid an allegation that he forced an intern to perform oral sex on him after they went to a restaurant.
Von Ehlinger has denied the allegations, which the Boise Police Department is investigating. He has not been charged with a crime.

Forgiving a drunk driver who caused an accident that killed someone does not repair the damage to the cars or bring back the dead. Oh i believe that if you accuse a peoson of rape and that person is not guilty with unequivocal evidence, not just not guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt and the acusser can be shown to have made false accusations, the accuser should get the same sentence that the accused rapist would have gotten. He was thrown under the bus by fellow Republicans(RINOS). Less than a year earlier two other RINOS in this very same State House one man and woman, each married to other people, were found to be having an affair during the legislature and using their pay (tax payer dollars) to pay for the hotel rooms they used for their affair. There was no hearing or punishment, whatsoever. My guess is that this young man was targeted by the same RINOS that let the other situation pass because they saw him as a threat. That has happened to other young conservative men in other State legislatures. We need to clean house in the Republican Party across the Nation at every level! We need to do it yesterday.
I guess now it’s guilty as charged without DUE PROCESS. Police are still investigating. What if the investigation exonerates him. Will he be reinstated? Sooner or later the People will take matters into their own hands! Nuff’said.

Where was due process? It says he was accused. Since resigning without going to court, it makes me presume he is guilty. Still, he should be held guiltless unless proven guilty. With all of this social media at our fingertips, people are not getting their day in court because people rush to a conclusion without all of the facts or due process. One more sign that we are turning away from being a democratic republic.
Unfortunately not all rape charges are true. Hope the truth will come out. No one should get away with rape but then what is the punishment for the person who makes an untruthful charge of rape.

Did any of you read the article? The representative was accused of forcing the 19-year-old intern into giving him ORAL sex. There was no rape involved, as the headline reads.
With that said, it is reprehensible that anyone would force another person to perform oral sex on him or her. IF the event happened in the current situation, then the representative should pay the price for his actions. The biggest problem is this: Did it happen? The representative obviously followed his counsel’s advice and refused to answer any questions at the hearing. Why? Because the local police agency was investigating the complaint. Remember the admonition? “Anything you say can be used against you.” In short, let your attorney do the talking.
Let this be a lesson to anyone and everyone out there: Watch what you do and with whom. A great number of actions will eventually come back to bite you (and not just in the end).
One last comment. I wish people would stop misapplying Jesus’ admonition to not judge. Jesus was not making a statement that could be applied, willy nilly, to every circumstance in the world where discernment is needed. Jesus really summed up the matter when he said render onto God what is God’s and render onto Caesar that which is Caesar’s. In short, our soul belongs to God and our body belongs to Caesar. If a person violates the law of the land, we have the right and the duty to condemn such action. Otherwise, why have laws to protect us against the actions of others if we cannot “judge” those actions.
