Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District

Rep. Collin Peterson (D) vs. Michelle Fischbach (R)

Michelle Fischbach served as the 49th Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota and as the first woman to serve as the President of the Minnesota Senate. She served in the latter capacity twice, first from 2011-12 and again from 2017-18. Fischbach also served as Chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee. She initially won election to the Minnesota Senate in 1996.

Before being elected to the House of Representatives in 1990, Collin Peterson was a small business owner and served in the state senate for 10 years. Peterson prides himself on his self-professed moderate voting record and his position as a founding member of the Democrats’ “Blue Dog” coalition. But Conservative Review has given him a dismal Liberty Score of 29%. Moreover, his district in Western Minnesota has trended dark red, with President Trump winning the popular vote there by 31 points four years ago.

Polling compiled by FiveThirtyEight predicts a Michelle Fischbach win.
