Sunday wasn’t the first time protesters wrested a microphone away from a visibly irritated Bernie Sanders.
Reminiscent of a 2015 incident where Black Lives Matter activists shut down a Bernie rally, protesters – some of them topless – stormed the stage at a campaign rally in Nevada to challenge the Vermont senator’s support for dairy farmers. (Daily Caller)
“Bernie, I’m your biggest supporter, and I’m here to ask you to stop propping up the dairy industry and to stop propping up animal agriculture. I believe in you,” the protester shouted as the crowd began to drown out her words with boos.
At least two topless female protesters then joined the other protester on the stage. The two women poured milk on themselves and walked around shouting until security escorted them offstage, according to footage of the incident, which circulated online. The crowd continued to make raucous noise while attendees waited for the protesters to get off the stage.
According to local reports, three women ended up in handcuffs for suspicion of indecent exposure after the stunt. Sanders joked about the incident later, saying, “This is Nevada, there’s always a little excitement at no extra cost.”
In 2016, another topless woman interrupted a rally for Sanders’s presidential campaign and was arrested for her display, which was in protest of then-Republican candidate Donald Trump.
