In an address on the Senate floor, West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin said the world’s greatest deliberative body failed to meet its constitutional obligations in the impeachment trial of President Trump by failing to call additional witnesses.

Manchin scolded his Republican counterparts saying, “history will judge the Senate harshly.”

Manchin then excoriated President Trump for what he said amounted to pressuring the newly-elected Ukrainian President Zelekinsky to investigate the Bidens.

Manchin ended his speech by claiming he doesn’t yet know if he will vote to acquit President Trump. Instead, the West Virginia politician tried to thread the needle between appeasing liberals and placating conservatives by proposing censure as an alternative to impeachment.

He’ll likely offend both.

Making matters worse for Manchin, his state voted for Donald Trump by a forty point margin.
