Congresswoman-elect Lauren Boebert has already triggered members of the House Democrat Caucus, and she hasn’t even been sworn in yet.
The Colorado entrepreneur and gun-rights enthusiast recently asked Capitol Police about carrying firearms in the Capitol Building. While the law prohibits the public from doing so, the Capitol Police Board has begun reviewing Boeboert’s request.
The review prompted criticism from some Democrats who argue that Boeboert’s determination to bring her signature Glock to work is needlessly provocative. Republicans contend that Boebert is within her rights. While the District of Columbia has among the strictest gun laws in the nation, the Capitol complex allows lawmakers to make their own rules since the building resides on federal land. Members of Congress are already allowed to bring registered firearms into the House and Senate office buildings adjacent to the Capitol.
Fox News reports:
“The Democrats are always up for stripping away our Constitutional rights and feel threatened when we simply want to exercise those rights,” Boebert told Fox News Wednesday. “I carry a firearm to protect myself and want to exercise my right to do so in one of the most dangerous cities in America. They want to take that right away from me. I look forward to helping make sure they can’t.”
At least 21 Democrats sent a letter Tuesday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., asking that lawmakers be banned from carrying guns on all Capitol grounds.
California Rep. Jackie Speier, who survived multiple gunshot wounds during the Jonestown massacre, Rep. Jared Huffman, D-Calif., and Rep. Robin Kelly, D-Ill., led the effort. They want the firearms ban included in the House rules package that lawmakers will have to vote on when the new Congress is sworn in on Jan. 3.
Currently, members of the public are prohibited from carrying guns at the Capitol, but lawmakers are exempt from the firearms ban because of a 1967 regulation. The Democrats say it’s time for lawmakers to be held to the same firearm rules as everyone else.
Why is it always Dems who want to impose their will on everyone else? No one is forced to carry a firearm, but if this new Congressperson feels she needs the means to protect herself, that should be her choice — especially when it’s her constitutionally protected right. Dems will push for a woman’s right to kill an unborn child, but somehow being able to exercise 1st Amendment or 2nd Amendment rights can be stripped away, no problem? I have a family member, 91 years old, who was in a skilled nursing facility for five months. The facility bragged that they had not had one case of covid for over six months. All the staff, 100%, wore masks, gloves, and sterile hospital clothing, 100% of the time. Finally, one of the staff tested positive. He was quarantined and stayed away from the building. Within one week 12 of the patients had developed Covid and two, including my relative, had died. The point is, masks, gloves, and the extremes the politicians and bureaucrats mandate do not work. A virus will find ways to infect, not matter what we do. I advocate keeping the elderly and scaredely away from public places, but those who want to assume the risk and be responsible for themselves should have the right to open their businesses and go to work. Herd immunity will only come with adequate exposure. If the modern Democrats had been in charge during world war 2, it would have been the Biblical apocalypse. Thank God they weren’t. It will be bad enough if they take the helm as a result of this fraudulent election.

How about a simple legislation stating “The Senate and the House of Representative shall not pass any laws that shall exclude its applicability to themselves, and that al such existing exclusions shall be considered null and void upon passage and this bill becoming law with the signature of the President of the United States of America.”
This can then be followed by multiple individual item bills that would:
(1) Terminate continuation of all benefits upon leaving the office, including the continuation of pay in the form of pension(after all they claim to be therefor their love of public service).
(2) Incorporate private sector practice of converting all pension plans to 401(k)plans.
(3) Lawmakers should be entitled to COBRA coverage of health insurance needs upon leaving office.
(4) Modify the pay structure to represent lawmakers receiving no more than 10% above the median income of their constituents.
In addition, all future legislation should clearly identify impact on any existing laws and certify that it does not duplicate effort required under another law.
